Apparently Bond 22 is to be called:

    'Quantum Of Solace'

Now I know this is the title of a short story written by Fleming in the 60's, but

    (a) given it was the 60's, Lord knows what Sir Ian was smoking while in Jamaica
    (b) will I be given a quantity of stuff to smoke before I see a movie with a title that is obviously the product of a narcotic induced state of mind
    and,
    (c) wtf??????????

Anyone else got any thoughts on this???

    I'll echo your "WTF?" statement.

    WTF?

It will be interesting to see how they work that title into a line of dialogue like they always do.

Ya, its a very strange name for a bond film. And its supposed to start "literally an hour after the last film left off" according to this bbc article.

    Wow! Catchy!

I feel so sorry for whoever is burdened with writing the title song!

This explains the origin of the title somewhat

    **SCENE **
Bond infiltrates a lab where bio-warfare and chemical weapons are made. He shoots several obviously evil henchmen with his Walther P-whatever-trusty-gun. He then obviously is captured after killing a gazillion henchmen, cos after that kinda lelve of killing your super-hero powers wear off & you get caught very very easily. Just as he's about to have his John Thomas sawn inhalf with a particle accelerator, he manages to pop a button off his shirt by over-extended his martini laden stomach outwards, flicking the frickin laserbeam back at the evil mastermind, causing him to die by implosion....

BOND: I always told him if he didn't play nice with the other kids, he'd be taken aside & made feel my quantum of solace ......... nasty business ........

    :D

Except Harry Potter doesn't get caught humping some vacuous chick & can only seem to utter the words "Oh James!" in an orgasmic manner, while James 'pumps her' for information ....... because apparently M likes him to do that, & Moneypenny reckons how much pumping is best left to his judgement ..... that is all :D

Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

It doesnt have love, live, die or kill in the title :(

Interesting to see if the theme song shares the name of the film, as is usually the case.

As long as it's half as good as Casino Royale then I'll be happy.

Unless it's twice as good as Casino Royale then I won't be happy.

If it's half as good as Casino Royale it will only be half a turd then ;)
Can't get excited about Bond anymore as it is one of the most stale franchises around. With the exception of one or two exciting sequences, Casino Royale was a standard, forgettable spy flick. It wasn't as bad as the muck that was Die Another Day, but it was startingly overrated.

A good film and a good Bond film are two different things. Most people judge Casino Royale as a Bond movie in which case it's practically a masterpiece as some of the entries in series are truly woeful. But by regular film standards it was fairly mediocre. I guess it's a reflection of the success of the Bond franchise that people have come to view it as a genre in itself and rate it as such.

Quantum is a measurement, so a measure of solace, i.e Bond's thirst for some sort of closure or revenge for what happened toward the end of casino royale. Simple really, they could've called it "this time it's personal" but this is a little better. Even if it sounds like a stargate episode

Surely someone could have come up with a better name though? This one..it just doesnt work for me, at all.

I don't think the title is that made. Like, come on, Goldfinger, Moonraker, Thunderball. These titles aren't much better. :D

I don't give a feck what the title is tbh. All that'll be said to mates etc. is: "Wanna go see the new James Bond film?" or "OMG DID YOU SEE THE NEW JAMES BOND FILM?!? It's bleedin deadly!" etc.

Quantum of Solace - Its sounds like sci-fi B movie from the seventies

I am struggling to understand this one....

Are you saying CR was a turd, and if QOS is half as good it will be only half a turd - but then surely that would make it a better film, twice as good or something.

Or, are you saying CR was only a quarter of a turd?

    Confused, of the Interweb.

    Fair point...

Casino royal was not that great but for me it had the funniest scene in bond ever.

Im sitting in the cinema watching the movie and about 1/2 way though or twards the end (whatever) *when bond gets in his car and goes fast scene* Anyway some guy in the audience behind whispers to his mate "Kool SAVAGE we get to see what his new car does" then 2 seconds later the car flips myelf and my mates must have been the only ones who heard your man cause we just burst out laughing. Very funny

Yeah Im confused too. And I wrote it. It should technically be that the new film will be two turds, but that doesn't sound right. So yeah, it doesn't make any sense. Just run with it.

In essence, there are just lot of turds floating around. Or something.

    Awesome.

it could be a lot worse:

    Risico

    or

    The Hildebrand Rarity

The new title just proves something bond fans have been in denial about for years:

Fleming was a useless hack of a writer, and if it weren't for Cubby Broccoli nobody would be thinking twice about his appaling pulp novels.

I bet they only chose that title so they can retain the new vertical 007 logo they used for Casino Royale.
