Me and two mates are going in mid February and was wondering if anybody had any advice on where to stay (in any budget range), where to go and what to see.

We're pretty keen on seeing some of the grimmer parts of Warsaw's history but want to see what it's become too, and also check out the nightlife. We'll be there from a Thursday to a Sunday.

    Do you have it booked?

If not go to Krakow or Wroclaw instead

We were there last year but as other poster said krakow is better. Accom is really cheap compared to here. We got a 5 star for around €100 b+b. Eating out/shopping we found was not much cheaper than ire. Drink is and the local beer is strong. Theres plenty of bars but a trip to the ice bar is worth it. Place is made of ice and they serve u vodka in ice shot glasses. Buy a 3 day transport ticket and you can use it on the tram or bus. Visit the old town. Check out warsawinsider.pl fodors.com for info on wat to do. I remember eating in a place called the tortilla factory 1 night . It was good. we left around 9 ish and the place was heaving. club foksal was good. around nowy swait(on of main streeta) somewhere. No trip to warsaw is complete without going to the uprising museum(ithink its called that) spend an hour or 2 there to take time looking at old war memorbilia and photos. I am so naive I really didn't know how bad warsaw people had it. Of course I wasn't so stupid to be unaware of wat went on, I was taught it in history but it's not until you see the 100's of photos that you realise what a terrible time it was. Enjoy the trip

go to krakow. had to go to warsaw to get a replacement passport and its grim alright. Krakow on the otherhand has a lovely town square, the nightlife is ace and old auschwitz is nearby so theres your grim history.

Warsaw was levelled in the war, so there really isn't much to see anymore in the line of historical sites. Krakow on the other hand, wasn't levelled and has loads to see and do. It's also close to lots of other places - Auschwitz, Wieliczka, the Tatras etc.

Gdansk is also worth a look.

Nathan's Villa Hostel or Hotel Oki Doki are great budget places to stay. The Ghetto and Rising museums are a quite sobering experience.
There is a massive fleamarket beside the old football stadium which can be ok for military memoribilia etc.

As for nightlife the ice bar was already metioned, another good place is a club called Jadladania Filisophicnia sp? on Ulica Dobra.

I was in warsaw in december...we arrived that night and were dying to get travelling around it...until the next day when we could actually see what was in front of us!!! Was'nt really much to look at at all, really grim and dreary! The old part of warsaw (which has been restored) is far nicer than the new area, really really pretty. drink is generally cheaper....less than 2e for a local beer, around 2.50e for alco pops.

We stayed in the premier classes hotel for 3 nights, only cost 120e for 2 people, great value. rooms are basic and small but very clean and the hotel is right beside the tram (2.50 for a day ticket) and a 20e taxi ride from the airport.

With regards to going out...we went mainly to the bar in the hotel beside us, didnt go to any nightclubs, were in a bar owned by an irish guy (though it is not your typical irish bar at all) not sure what the name of it is, we also went to an Ice bar! YES it was an actual ice bar! VERY COOL if you'll pardon the pun! It was a 15min walk from the hotel. In the 'lobby area' everything was white, some neon lights and unicorns all round, it was gorgeous, 3 e to go into the ice area which was amazing and well worth it. Its basically a room, which is -8degrees premanently, with ice sculptures, ice seats, ice curtains and even ice GLASSES!!! The only thing that could be drunk in this room was vodka/jager....

I would go back to warsaw purely for this bar, it was class. and the to polish that ran it were the only nice polish people we spoke to over there, not the friendliest of cities.
