i came back to a nice present left by some a**hole, a lump of paintwork missing from the wheelarch of my car. its about 1 x 1/2 inch in size and the metal of the car body has been exposed. aside from needing to get this repaired should i do anything to the affected area in the meantime to prevent further damage? should be worried about corrsosion/rust ?

What kind of car is it? Odds are if new that it is fully galvanised so no need to worry about rust before you get it repaired.

Oh dear, just make sure you get a top notch repair, sounds like you may be heading for a re-sprayed wing so you need it to be perfect.
