Hi everyone, i am a third year studying business computing at an it and have been considering possibly transferring to the business info sys course here in ucc next year ( transferring into 3rd year).
I have a couple of questions on the matter and would appreciate anyone who takes the time to respond and help me decide.:o

Basically my main concern is whether its worthwhile for me to transfer to a uni in terms of job prospects/course fulfillment. Considering that 3rd year is part co- op also i am just wondering if anyone can give me some info on what the business information system course is like in 3/4th year

I was in UCC doing the b comm and I transferred to an IT (i needed to be closer to home due to family illness) and having graduated I have gotten as good positions than any of my old class mates if not better as the course i transferred to was more specific than the general b comm....

If you like what your doing stick at it but in terms of jobs I dont think it makes a difference...can depend on which IT your in too

I would advise against BIS UCC but would go for a Management course in UCC instead ..

Would you mind elaborating because from what i have read it seems to be quite a good course.

I was doing Comp. Science in UCC and they wouldnt allow a transfer to BIS so just make sure they do transfers.

Graduate of BIS from last year. I don't know if they'd let you transfer straight into 3rd year. I know guy's who transferred into 2nd alright but don't think they'd allow a transfer straight into 3rd year, they may get you to restart 2nd year.

Depends on what course you're coming from I suppose, but there is a level of programming that is covered in 1st and 2nd year that would be hard to get into in 3rd if you've never done it before.

The placement option is very well set up, with the majority (70% +)of placements in Boston. Did my placement in Boston, got offered a graduate place here in Galway and moving back to Boston in September once my Visa comes through. Haven't had to do any interviews since my initial one for the placement.

There is a fairly high graduate employment level, with a good few others going into post grad's and masters courses.

It's a general all round degree in IT, neither focusing too much on programming or business. If you're looking to get into just programming, then it's probably not the right degree, likewise for straight business.
