Floppies

I'm turfing out a load of old floppies and Zips, but attempted to read the floppies first using an external USB floppy drive.

It read the first one, and popped up an old Eudora installer icon on my desktop; I ejected and tried the others, but it's just going zizz zizz at each one.

I'm not sure which of these are Mac (OS 7 or 8, probably) and which PC (Windows 3.1 or 95, probably). Before I sling 'em out, is there anything I can do to read them?

They're probably just needless belt-and-braces backups, but I wouldn't mind taking a look to be sure.

Solved this, so for the aid of others I'll post the solution. I tried another floppy in the drive, the computer having been off and the drive unplugged overnight, and it read it.

It appears that the floppy drive likes to read one floppy, have it trashed, wind down, have the floppy ejected, and then be *unplugged* from the computer for a few moments; when you plug it in again it'll read another floppy.

Now to look for a portable Zip drive to read all those Zips full of heaven knows what.

    Oooh, maybe! Exciting thought!

But if it is, it features...

    YORE MA!

(always wanted to do a 'yore ma' post, sorry)
