the only 2 quite smg ive came across is the CA MP5 sd ,and the p90 with supressor

cant think of any that spring to mind Rew [with the exeption of a lot of bust clone mp7's ] the shorter barrels on smg's generally give them a louder then usual muzzle crack for the electric versions and well the gas versions are far from silent. ive heard of people silencing mp7's/mp5k's and the like but quite a few internals like different piston heads etc would be needed to get them really silent.
I doubt it would be easy to get an smg that is anywere near as silent as a silenced nbb pistol, i do stand to be corrected as its not something ive tried myself.

    and theirs my 2000th post

There is an electric Mac11 in the works somewhere.

Most of the noise generated by an AEG is from the gearbox. You could try installing a silent piston head and have the gear train properly shimmed. As for silencers, they do work but they only slightly muffle the sound and it's mostly noticeable if you are in front of the AEG

What exactly is involved with shimming? Any other benefits. and How to get it done?

The KSC mac 11 silencer works suprisingly well. So well that I rather shoot with the thing off as part of the fun is the noise.

Just to let you know MP5K`s are loud due to there shortness, I dont know if any of you have had experience with them but my galaxy mp5k`s roar like beasts, apparently the sound can be muffled by the right silencer but there will still be noise, cheek out the galaxy on youtube, there is loads of videos.

Shimming is installing very small spacers (like washers) onto the axels of the gears to minimize any free movement and to ensure the gears intermesh with each other correctly. Incorrect shimming or unshimmed gears increase wear and tear on the gears and brushings and result in a louder gearbox. To shim a gear box you must open the gearbox and remove and clean all components, place shims on gears, re-grease and re-assemble. I wouldn't advise you to do this until you have all necessary tools and knowledge. For a videos about disassemble and shimming go to Mechbox.com Linky

Ok thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

i've heard both the p90 and the steyr aug can be silenced very effectively by installing sound dampening material around the gearbox, they both have enough room around the gearbox to actually install the material in comparison to other aegs, i havent tried it yet, but i will soon with the p90

I've considered that myself, combined with a cushion cylinder head/piston head and a long barrel and maybe a foam filled silencer, you could have a decently quite aeg.

What sort of foam have you considered? Is there specific stuff available?

i was looking at dynamat a while back, its aftermarket stuff you can buy for soundproofing your car, there's plenty on ebay, but haven't looked locally yet to see where it can be bought, i'd imagine anywhere that does full in-car audio installs would have it or something similar

i've tried the so-called "silent" piston heads before, but didnt really notice any difference to be honest, maybe combined with a full silent setup including silencer and sound dampening around the gearbox it might help though

Silent piston heads just cushion the impact of the cylinder head and piston head afaik, any insert of foam or similar affixed to the cylinder head would work similaily well.
Just depends on the material I suppose.

Dynamat can be fairly expencive though, and its pretty heavy for what t is, I was thinking of that lagging stuff thats in attics for insulation, its cheap and easy to get and very easy to work with.., I might have some dynamt around somewhere though KD, ill have a look and you can use it and let us know the results., Wont fit in a G36:( .,lol

    Whaa!

Thought it would fit a g36, is there no space in it at all?

very few aegs have any space between the gearbox/body, normally the gearbox is sandwich between the two halves of the body.

vtec: if you have any lying around ill give it a try in the p90, just dropped by a car audio installation place while i was out and they will ring me back with a price on monday, i was hoping to find somewhere that might have it in stock in dublin, otherwise ill just try ebay
