I'm going to Boston in three weeks for a three night break. I'm going with my Mam and two younger sisters (teenagers). It's basically a shopping holiday so we're hoping to stay as central as possible.

Can anyone recommend any hotels which would be suitable?

Doesn't really matter where you stay because it's easy to get around in Boston. The subway comes every few mins and is really quick! Maybe try somewhere on Boylston Street. You're near everything there

definitely Jurys on stuart street is great, it's so central that you'll be in the centre of boston :D.

boston park plaza is another good one which is on arlington street which again is a stone's throw away from downtown boston.

the raddision is also close by.

i've stayed in the jury's one before and it's an excellent hotel.

use www.hotels.com to get a full review of these hotels or even more hotels in boston, you can even book your hotel online if you wish.

if you doing serious shopping - which i gathered from "shopping holiday" - then you need to visit the Galleria mall in cambridge, which is a $10 + tip journey from the hotel. it has everything you could want GAP/Abercrombie/American Eagle/Macy's i'll let you fill in the rest of the list with this

one sight-seeing thing i might add would be to go to boston common (central park basically) and then head to cheers, since you're going mainly for shopping and have only 3 days i'm not mentioning the the harbour or the aquirium (spelling) but try to at least visit cheers :p

Thanks for that Cremo, had just been looking at the Jury's hotel myself.

It's #1 of all Boston hotels through tripadviosor.com so decided to go ahead a book and got a quad room for three nights for just over €400 which is far less than what we intented spending!

Now when I say shopping hotel, I have a 14 year old sister who will be bored silly shopping after one day so we're thinking of maybe spending the middle day taking in the sites and enjoying whatever Boston has to offer so any recommendations will be much appreciated!

not really tourist-y but during the night in the science museum they have a IMAX theater there were the screen is a dome and you lay back horizontally on your chair i thought it was class and i was about 15 at the time and i make it a priorty of mine to go back there everytime i'm in boston.

there's also the museum of science itself (http://www.mos.org/) which does laser shows etc. but that may be too nerdy :p.

there's also the prudential center skywalk which is on bolyston street which allows for a 360 view of boston, they use to do this on the John Hancock building but when i went there last year they said they had stopped it since 9/11 :s.

the quincy market area is cool too, with some great street performers and shops and restaurants to boot, faneuil hall is located here which is basically just one long corridor with fast-food (for want of a better word here) on either side with a place to sit down and eat in the middle. everyone's taste will be satisfied here and the smell walking into the hall is quite extraordinary with all the different smells japanese/italian/mexican/etc.

I went to Boston last year, stayed at the fairmont copley for 275 per night, little expensive, but worth it! It was pure indulgence, place was a palace, great food! I booked my trip through myguideNewEngland, they were great, their sister company myguideIreland is based in skibby, knowledgeable staff, had a great time and would recommend using them, other nice hotels in Boston that I stayed at are Jury's and Boston Park Plaza right by the Public Garden, a little cheaper than the Fairmont too

Wow - a teenage girl who gets bored of shopping. That's quite a revelation:)

The Freedom Trail is good if you're happy to potter around the city using the map they give you explaining some of the city's history. If nothing else it might bring you to areas you might otherwise not get to like Charlestown over the river.

If you're into sports at all and even if you're not try to go to a Celtics game. It's great entertainment and the venue is very central. Celtics are doing well this year so tickets might be tricky but you can usually pick them up.

Finally, I'd recommend a trip over to Harvard and try to get one of the student led tours. Quite interesting and a bit of a laugh and after that there are loads of reasonable food options up there also.

Stayed in Jurys, over the new year, had a great time, and I also had a great lunch in the hotel. Also the cheesecake factory in the shopping centres on Boylston st.

The hotel is just around the corner from Filenes which is great for cloths, also there is a TJ MAX in town, but in the basement underneath there is another great outlet. I think it is called Marshalls.

Taxi very reasonable from the hotel to the airport, I think it was about $40

    Enjoy.

+1 for jurys, popular spot wit the locals on a Friday night. I thought the duck tour was good craic. Also book and have lunch at top of the hub in the prudential tower in Boston, great views from the room. Three course lunch is about $24 each, food's grand and that's about it. You have to book for security reasons.

There's a shopping centre in the same building and there's a walkway over the street to a second more upmarket shopping centre.

Celtics games are good fun, good crowd atmosphere, can drink in your seats. Cheapest tickets were about 10 dollars when i was there last, probably gone up a bit now. Better in terms of views to spend a bit extra than that.

There's a seafood restaurant next to the holocaust memorial (it's around the corner from where the Celtics play) that's excellent, good value and massive portions.

THe Cheesecake factory is in this shopping centre also. Great food. Reasonable, by Irish standards.
