    Hi all,
My house was started in 2001 but the build ended acriminiously by 2002 & we completed ourselves. When we applied for the rural renewal grant the inspector informed us he could not find the outlet pipe for the radon sump.
    Any thoughts or suggestions ?
Can a retro fit of a Radon sump be done and at what cost ?

sounds like a dirty nasty job now . need to break the (assumed concrete ) floor up . sumps are required in a central location or locations at a rate of 1 per 50m2 in the hardcore bed . then they must be vented i.e. you have to cut a trench in your floor from the sump to connect a vent pipe ( looks like a rain water pipe ) which vents to outside the building . then you need to make good your radon barrier , insulation and concrete floor slab . not to mention floor finishes . and repaint your walls and doors ( cutting concrete is major dusty :() jaysus i feel for you

if your layout allows ( i.e. say you have a bathroom over a utility ) you may avoid the vent trench by rising it vertically and out at high level , either through the roof of the wall at high level .

you MIGHT be lucky - your builder might have provided all of this but you unwittingly buried the outlet in your footpath area . do you have progress photos to review ?

retro-fitting a radon sump or radon membrane is an expensive messy job.... so much so it would probably easily negate any financial gains from the renewal scheme.

The first thing i would do get a radon measurement taken in the dwelling. If this shows safe radon levels then i would put this to the inspector.

Is there an existing cert of compliance on the dwelling??? was the builder Homebond registered??

    Hi,
200Bq/m^3 is the level you aim to be under. It really depends on the area in which your build is.
I personally have a device that measures radon levels over a period of 48 hours, if these are found to be high, remedial action is advised. It all depends on location.
If you require further info, i would be glad to help
