Xbox Live & COD4

Right so I've had my xbox since august and everything had been fine.
Since the 2nd week in Jan I've had some really bad lags on COD4 - always red connection.
When I do a test my ping, it comes up around 400ms
I was wondering is there any solution, I know about the trouble Live had during Christmas but everyone seems to be fine now except me :( .
I have Eircom 3mb package & my NAT on the xbox is open.
I use the netopia router as well.
I know people with 1mb perlico with better connections.

Anyone got any solution? Could it be eircom, router?

    do

Start - > run - > type "cmd" and hit enter

type "ping www.google.com" and hit enter, post up what you get here

    k, thats pretty awful

try this to try and isolate where the problem is....

instead of typing "ping www.google.com" type "tracert www.google.com"

it might take a minute or so for anything to pop up on screen, but it'll give you a good idea of where any bottlenecks are.... i suspect its your exchange though

Looks like you have a problem with your line, timing out between your router and Eircom.
I'd give eircom.net a call and ask them to do a line check.

What kind of response should you expect with a 2mb package?

what your after is low attenuation and high SNR...

this is a good site to bring you up to speed

    http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/linestats.htm
What kind of response should you expect with a 2mb package?

theres no standard speed you should expect to get, it really depends on the location of the server your trying to correct to.

also, correct me lads if i'm wrong, but pings from my old 2mb package and my current 3 meg package are exactly the same."pinging" only tests response time. the extra speed provides extra bandwidth and will not give any extra gains in response time.

btw Antamojo, i cant see the tracert or ping screeny you posted there, imageshack must be down?

I can still see it ^^

Is there anything I can do about this?
Should I be worried about the CRC errors?

My friend has a netopia router and he has the same problem are you using wired or wireless?

not really anything you can do with SNR or attenuation (your distance from the exchange effects this) but that really should effect your ping too much.

your going to have to ring eircom and raise a fault on the line, like a previous poster says the problems between your router (192.168.1.254) and the exchange.. somewhere theres a bottleneck

Thanks for the help anyway, I'm not too far from my exchange

    BTW
    I'm using wired

Would I be able to ring eircom tech support and ask about it?

BTW I'm at the EastPoint Exchange so maybe the businesses are juicing my net!!!

try doing pings at different times of the day, if your gettin really good pings at 2am then you've got the same probs as Dscully

    *Update*
I rang eircom and was on the phone for over 35 mins
The chap said that there is something very wrong
He said that he has to pass it on to the engineers and would ring back in about week

Does anyone have a clue what a phone line password could be?
It comes up when I try to set up another router
