Thought I'd put this up since quite a few people have watched it now.

Another excellent episode, if a little slower moving than last weeks episode. good to see Omar coming back to town with a vengeance and sad to see
    Prop Joe finally kick it

I thought it seemed a little out of character for The Greek to meet Marlo face to face so early in their business relationship, especially after he was so reluctant to meet (those dock guys?) back in Season 2 and do all his dealings through his right hand man, but Marlo seems to have thier business pretty much wrapped up now.

The scene with Burrell & Daniels in the office was great, I was half expecting Burrell to start clubbing Daniels when he walked behind him brandishing that putter...

Clay Davis walking out of the Jury room with a scowl on his face, only to instantly turn it into that cheesy grin when he spots the media outside was funny :D

Noooooo, not Prop Joe. One of my favorite characters.
Cheese is some stupid mo fo.

Marlo is one bad minded shark, i'll be smiling when he gets his, that old 'greek' too. :D

Looked like Burrell might just club Daniels alright :) Poor Clay is ****ed....Shiiiiiittttttt

    McNulty and those teeth....*shudders*

slow moving ep but great finish, sets up the war with Omar next week

Great episode. No need for spoiler tags guys, its in the title.

Poor Joe,marlo needs to fall, and hard. I just hope omar does him by show's end.

The scene with Burrell and the golf club was very funny, and I wonder will we actually find out what Daniels' secret is.

Great to see the Greek back, have been waiting for that since season 2.

Now I'm off to watch 5,6 and 7. Which i'm torn about. It will be great to watch them all,but then Ill have to wait 4 weeks until I see a new episode.

'The Wire' in excellent episode shock :p

Poor Prop Joe - it's no real surprise of course. Marlo's frustration and desire to grow has been clear but even still! The boy needs to be taken down and Omar's just the sort of hard-ass mo-fo to do it. Only thing is that this is 'The Wire' so all bets as to what will happen are off.

McNulty's "serial killer" story line is good, the teeth being a particularly twisted touch. Shame though he's pretty much destroyed his personal life - I can't see that being fixed by show's end.

I wanted a "shiiiiittttt" from Clay Davis but the ****-eating grin outside the Grand Jury almost made up for it. Do we have to indict him?

Now do I wait and ration out the next few or indulge...

I indulged and am already suffering withdrawals. I want the last 3 episodes! But it was actually worth it,some great episodes with some brilliant scenes that I obviously won't mention here, but mate, you know you are going to watch them altogether asap, they call out to you! :D

And I just want to discuss the episodes! can we set up a side thread with obvious spoiler warnings to discuss 5,6 and 7? There seems to be a few who have watched them.

Another very good episode - I wonder if that's because there was less of Bubbles and the newsroom? Those two storylines have dragged a bit thus far - for me anyway.

Colicchio being made a fool of and losing the rag was hilarious and it was good to see Carver make a stand and not tolerate his OTT reaction. Who knows what might have happened if Daviels had done likewise back in season one when Prez, Herc and Carver went down to the towers for some late night "interviews"?

The Headshot - who would have thought that using a loan from one of his parents to qualify for a mortgage would be the smoking gun to possibly bring Clay Davis down. And it's illegal to do that when practically everyone does it ? ( I wonder if it's illegal here?)
Sad to see Bond risk the case to further his own career prospects - the message from the wire seems to be that power corrupts.

Daniels squirming in the chair while he wondered if Burrell was going to do a Patrick Bateman using that golf club instead of an axe was funny too.
Anyway it seems that Daniels isn't going to make it as commissioner now that Nerese has that file.
He might not even be in the Deputy Ops chair for very long as that file has to resurface before the end of the series and Nerese seems quite adept at playing both sides of the fence for her own advantage.

Gus's translation of Carcetti's speech about Burrell was also priceless :D.

Marlo didn't wait much time before using the tiff between Cheese and Hungry to his advantage although I did think that Cheese sold Joe out a bit too readily. It probably won't be long before it comes back to bite him in the ass though as Marlo tends to dispense with those he has no need for rather readily. That's surely the end for the co-op as well. Surely they won't all be too eager to sit around the table knowing that Marlo just offed two of their fellow co-op members while wondering if he's going to target them next?

Sorry to see Prop Joe go but it was telegraphed for the last couple of episodes - I'm just surprised that Joe didn't see it coming himself.

No need for the spoiler as there's plenty of warnings already that there are spoilers for this episode in this thread :).

Marlo wants to be top dog and to "wear the crown". Prop Joe is currently top dog as he has the connection to the Greeks for the good dope.
There isn't any real reason for the Greeks to deal with Marlo while Joe is still in place but if something were to........er......**happen** to Joe then Marlo will be the direct connection.

The co-op's reaction to Marlo offing Joe will be interesting.
Firstly, he'll bring an element of fear - the co-op was designed to avoid and reduce bloodshed between the gangs and yet Marlo's upset its purpose. If Marlo set such a violent precedent, other gangs may quickly follow.

Even if they do fall in line, the atmosphere will be different. Prop Joe was fairly laid back and that was evident at the meetings - with people joking around and Joe taking an easy hand. It was clear that this annoyed Marlo and I imagine he won't brook dissent and use a heavy hand. It'll be a far more solemn, cold affair from now on.

    thanks deepblue

SURELY the rest of the member will not sit back and accept marlo as the new leader. Maybe he'll keep it hush.

I'm fairly certain everyone is scared $hitless of him to actually do anything. They also seem to have a problem with muscle,if you remember in season 4 Joe offered the good product and entry into the co-op in exchange for his muscle because they didn't have any or enough.

Lester & McNulty used a pair of dentures to put bite marks on the latest dead homeless guy to corroborate the story that McNulty fed to the journalist (Alma?) in the Sun. Basically they wanted to get more publicity so needed to do something OTT with a body that they are putting down to the 'serial killer'.

Just watched up to episode 7 also .. wowzers.

Bit slow but I liked it a lot.

Didnt see joe getting a built in the head. I also like the why Chris killed him No messing about. Back of the neck rather than the head

Dont know but there is a reason why he did it that way rather than shooting him in the head

I thought back of neck ment he could have an open casket type funeral, if you shot in the back of the head, well not much to look at in a church...

They mentioned on Salon that one of the homeless guys in this ep was Horse from Season 2.. didnt notice that myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,931 ✭✭✭dubmick

supposedly it Johny Fifty (another dock worker) not Horseface.

That Salon review of the episode is a good read. It made me realise actually how good that episode was.

yea the Salon reviews give an interesting take on it. I've been reading them after each episode. I have to agree that the newsroom story is the weak part at the moment.
