New NTL connection

    Hello,

I am building a new house in a residential area which is cabled underground for NTL however NTL say that I have to continue the duct from the nearest NTL box (about 10 metres) to the new house. They say that I have to find a contractor who does this work as they don't recommend any - it is specialized work as there is public liability insurance involved and digging near existing services, etc. My builder does not do it as he does not have the insurance or experience. I assume they are not just dragging their heels although I cannot see how they can get any new business with that attitude. Does anyone know how I can get this work done? I might just have to go with SKY.

Will Eircom have the same attitude?

    Thanks folks,

    Pat.

Normally the builder puts the duct in if required. Is most of the digging to be done on your property or public land. If digging on public land you need to apply for a licence to the county council(Its called a T2). They should give you maps of local service if any are there. ICL do this sort of thing for NTL (link below). Really its a very straight forward thing for your builder to do. Some builder just don't want the extra work. Strange the builder has never had to dig on public property before. Even if he could link into a duct on your property that would also do making sure to put a manhole over any linked duct(I'm taking it that your building in a side garden).

.......I would just forget about NTL and just get Sky in.

Easy to install, and overall a better package.
Better service, more channels and better products. ( Sky +, SKy HD and interactive).

Where I live I cannot have sky as dishes are not allowed.
Now with NTL but I would switch back to Sky immediately if I could.

THey are just more innovative and more higher tech than NTL. NTL seem to be always chasing their tales.

    Hope this helps.
