    Hello,

Has anyone any information how and where I can get a digital 3D model made from my house drawings? I will start a self build in March and wish to get a professional 3Dmodel made from my cads? How much does this cost? Can I get a walkthrough showing room layout furniture etc. i have been told all this is available but have no idea of the costs. I would also like to have a light survey for different times of the year to show where the light will fall adn I have been told all this is available but worry about costs?

All help appreciated and hope the question warrants a new thread :)

    Hi...
If you're reasonable with a PC you could download "Google Sketchup".. Its free and easy to self teach... Within a few hours you can create a 3D model with as much detail as you wish to spend time including...
I have no idea on professional services... I did ours on sketchup and was happy with the results considering it cost nothing....

    See for yourself

    http://sketchup.google.com/

Have sent a PM with a capture to give an idea

    Best of luck...

Sketchup is great for a rough idea of masses and volumes.

Its sounds like the OP wants a realistic walkthrough, this is not really for sketch up.
As for a light survey, again its slightly out of sketch ups control, it will give rough results, but for accurate results a better program is needed.

I made a rough model with cardboard and cellotape and with a flashlight its amazing the insight you get.
    No pun intended.

    Hey blackiebest,

I was thinking the exact same thing, and spent some time looking tonight.

Found one trial version of IMSI Floorplan 3D, and its seems OK but the 3D walk around functionality was very clunky, So I continued looking.

I then found http://www.plan3d.com/pages/homeChlgr.aspx?rd=1 and it looks very cool, but there is no trial software.

So I'm trying Google sketchup now, we'll see how good it is.

    Talk later,
    Cormac

Google sketchup doesn't look so good either.

Is there any software that will render your AutoCad drawings into the 3D design?

You won't get a better free product than Sketch up.
You won't get a product as user friendly as sketch up.

and you won't get photo-realistic results from sketch up alone. nor will you learn one of those programs quickly.

    The best advice yet.

I have spent some time looking around and really rather than learn a whole new programme I would love to retain a competant person who could do what I am after for a reasonable price. I will let you know how I get on. Cormac if you could pm me your email I will let you know who I find.

Question to Mod's. What is the protocol in naming companies on this forum, is it ok to name companies and not individual names? I am confused about this and as I somehow ended up on the wrong side of a mod before, I wish to know what is allowed and what is not.

Thanks again for help and information.

Totally agree, and here are some free video podcasts to go with sketchup for those who want to see more.

I know a few people who are very good with the professional software required to do what youre looking for.

Complanies who do that kind of thing exclusively are probably going to charge a small fortune.

Someone who knows their stuff may do it as a nixer....

As a general rule we dont allow company names (or individuals) to be mentioned. This is to ensure that we remain free from shills and spammers. However there is the odd exception made at our own discretion. For example if a regular user here who has just completed his new house and in response to a query concerning windows states that he got his windows from the XXX company then I dont think we would be too concerned as we would be familiar with the user over a period of time and would know that he is not trying to pimp a particular firm but merely trying to help. If in any doubt PM a forum mod in advance of posting any trade names but you can take it that its not normally allowed.

Oh I think you know why you ended up on the wrong side of me ;)

And did I not tell you that you would be excited to meet me here again :D

OK. Found the guys and am very impressed with the prices. They will send me screen shots of my build newt week for approval before I pay:). €300.00 for complete structural 3d and €15 per hour for any changes. Sounds very reasonable to me and will post images when I receive them. Sounds good in my opinion. PM me for details for contact.

    Hello all,

HAve my model and really enjoying spinning it around and seeing it from all angles. Really happy and well worth the money IMO. Have tried to attach them and will happily email actual sketchup model if any of you want and have downloaded the sketchup.

    Blackie.
