Its now time to do the final filling up under external doors before the tiling work starts inside.

what is hte best way to make sure you don't get any leaks.
right now the door frames (PVC) are on small bits of stone being held in position so i need to cement in around them but i guess it must be a good waterproof cement mix i'll use.

    All advise welcome. :)

    Hello,

IMO you should use a combination of an aqua channell as close as possible to outside of step and a dpc which will form around channell and behind inside of step, Tiling will cover the dpc on the inside and all problems should then be addressed. Also try to ensure a min 5deg fall on outside path, keeping water away is easier than keeping water out:)

You need to have a drain channel in place at the outside of external doors that dont have a porch etc.. particularly if there is a risk of water lodging

This is about 100mm deep x 100mm wider

    They come in 1m lengths

    Blackiebest's info is pretty sound.

Check the detail in the home bond manual, do it right if you mess that up and your door is on the exposed side of your house it will leak, The detail on our house was done wrong and now I have to fix it as our floor is crumbling away. Ps: if you are putting in an ACOchannel make sure you pipe it to the surface water sewer. It is amazing how many builders don't.

When in reply, click the insertimage.gif button,
then paste in the url of the image. Should appear in the test then, snypers looks better as the image has a transparent background.

As for the OP, an ACO drain or similar is a must. The one I like is ACO Stepdrain, it is much slimmer than standard units, about 50mm. It is slightly deeper to make up for this.

They should be connected to surface, but if you have a large garden, a mini-soakaway is fine also imo. Check out the aco website for various designs.

Thanks for all the advise, busy w/end ahead getting organised to get these drains in.
I could only find 1 diagram in H.Bond Manual under disabled entrance sections. is there anywhere else in the book that discusses these drains?
