I figured "Once" was ineligible as it was nominated for "best music in film" in last year's iftas.

I figured "Once" was ineligible as it was nominated for "best music in film" in last year's iftas.

I don't see why not since some awards give award nominations a number of years after the film/programme.

E.g. Freeks and Geeks was nominated for Emmies in 2000 and 2001.

The nomination rules for seasonal TV shows and Movie releases are quite different.

Freaks and geeks ran in the USA over an irregular staggered season, Sept 99 to Oct 2000, making it eligible for a writing nomination in both the 99 and 2000 Emmy Ceremonies.

Movies are considered, for awards purposes, to have a single qualifying release date in each territory. In this case, Once was eligible for the 2007 IFTA ceremony last year, so cannot be eligible again this year.

We should really be thankful for the "one year only" rule, as otherwise we'd be faced with the horrific possibility of Celine Dion winning the Best Song oscar for years in a row for the same bloody song.

The IFTA's were shown up for the political farce that they are last year when Once won nothing. John Carney is not a member of the cosy club. It was beaten in the music category by A Tigers Tale, John Boorman is a member ogf the cosy club, I mean come on !!!!!!

You don't think that maybe the judges just didn't like Once? I thought it was crap, maybe they did too?

Set aside mine or your personal taste do you not think that its a bit strange that Once has generally been critically acclaimed throughout the world and not was even recognised by the domestic film and TV awards ?

Of the category I mentioned, the score / best music category, it has a Grammy and Oscar nomination, and was defeated by A Tigers Tale in the IFTA's. Does that not say something about the credibility of the IFTA judging process that got it very wrong last year ?

I think that the Tudors will win alot of awards due to its success abroad even though it is not an Irish TV Programme but an American one.

It was the responsibility of the producers of Once to put forward their film for the IFTAs. The producers decide what categories they want to be nominated in and pay the appropriate fee (per category). Then the IFTA members decide who is to be put on a long list, then a short list and then the nominees are selected.

The Once producers made a mistake. They submitted the film a year too early. If they were in this year, they would have cleaned up.

Btw I'm one of the few people who couldn't bear the film.

I felt that the Tudors tookover the show. Ok so the fact that TV3 got a mention for buying the show is dissappointing. :( (I know my usual theme of TV3 bashing but sure some has to do it :) )
