It is a little bit depressing to be in the pissing rain of Galway after the sunny climes of Southern Africa (you need to be careful what you wish for though ... there were days in Namibia when the temp reached as much as 47C ... this is not so good... especially if there is a wind blowing .. believe me)

The good news is I'm off to Las Vegas for PMA next week (Mark ... I'm staying at the LV Hilton ... ping me your mobile and I'll text you mine) ... I'll let ye know if there is anything amazing to report ...

On a photo note my blog is up to date with some totally unphotoshopped images ... please feel free to look at - Leinsterman's Travelpod
... and give constructive critique if you like here ... the blog is not finished yet ... there are a few entries to go ...

All I can say is this ... what a trip!!! ... especially Namibia!!

So ... did anything happen in the forum while I was away ? :p

    By the way ... on the 1d MkIII v 5d ...

I had both cameras in Africa ... and used the 1d MK III in 10fps mode at ambient temperatures of as much as 42C ... no problems at all with AF, despite the fact that my camera is being recalled ... in the powder dust of the Namib desert the weather sealing was a great asset too ...

Having used both the 5D and the 1D (and being concious that the 1D and 5D are aimed at different types of photography)... I have to say the quality of images from the 1D is way better than the 5D ... which leads me to believe that once Canon put the Digic III processor in the 5D body and add the tweaks of the 40d/1d Mk III it will be one hell of a camera body ... I'm hoping they'll do this for PMA and I'll get time to play with the 5D replcement there ... the press releases are due this Thursday according to Canon Ireland ... I spoke to them yesterday ... they say they'll let me know if there is anything special coming up ... so I'll keep you all posted.

Anyways having two camera bodies in the desert is really useful ... both bodies got put through their paces big time ... it is especially useful on game drives ...

One last thing, did you see any famous female sports photographers over there?

Kinda remind you of the scene from crocodile dundee - struth, call that a camera, <whip out that great big bellows yoke above>, Now thats what i call a camera! (or was that scene something about a knife )

Well you'll be getting a preview on Sunday ... but I have 45GB of pictures to get through so it'll be a while before I process the RAW files ...

I could have shot a lot more ... but this would have been at the expense of taking in the experience of Africa, if you get my meaning, there were a few places which were so inspirational that all you could do was put the camera down and take a deep breath ...

... and there was also a lot of dust and water to contend with in the intense heat of the day ... so I did not always have a camera with me ...
