Missed pill

Hello all. I need peoples opinions on this.

My girlfriend has been on the pill for the past year. She forgot to take her very last pill on time before the 7 day break period. She took the pill 15 hours after her regular time (she normally takes it at 8 in the morning but took it at 12 that Friday night).

Unfortunately, she did not read the instructions properly and went straight onto her 7 day break (instructions state that for over 12 hour delays in the last week, the girl should go straight into the next week and avoid the 7 day break period).

We had full intercourse on the Sunday and we felt it better to get the morning after pill which she took 6 hours later. It is now Tuesday and she is suffering from very bad lower right side abdominal and back pain. I hope to god she is not pregnant.

Has anyone had any similar (or worse) experiences? etc.

    Thank you all

Has her period started yet? She's probably experiencing PMT, but the only way to be certain is to take a pregnancy test.

She is statistically unlikely to be pregnant, especially after taking the morning after pill. But again, the only way to be sure is to take a pregnancy test.

The morning after pill can and does cause abdominal and back pain, it should say that on the packet that you got it in. If you have any worries she should attend her GP.

Well if she is on the pill she should know what day to expect her period?

I sincerely doubt she is pregnant, especially so late in her cycle, your highest chances of conception are around day 14 -16 so on day 28 it would be close too impossible - she still took her pill at 12 midnight and the combination of the morning after pill I would say it's almost impossible and what she is experiencing now is a cramp - she certainly wouldn't be having conception pains this early!!

try the "first response " ? test , (sorry if spelt wrong) thats what my gf uses . your girlfriend shount be pregnant but its always good to make sure. the only other advice i can give is to use a condom aswell as the pill. its what we do now....after an expensive ( in both money and emotions ) trip to liverpool...
    that way your always sure.
I hope you get the result your looking for .

( you can pm me if you want,to talk about it in depth or just need advice for anything)

I reccomend a little redundancy in the future: wear a condom.

Since it was her very last pill, and she was so late in her cycle, chances are she would not have gotten pregnant. With the morning after pill on top of that, you can almost bank on it (but whats the harm in getting a pregnancy test, they are only 10 euro)

The pains that she is experiencing may just be pre-period pains, or a result of the morning after pill.

You may want to warn her that worrying about the fact that she may be pregnant may delay her period, as her period will only come when her body is in a state to take it (thats why many women miss periods during relationship trouble, exams, etc etc)

So take a test and ease both your minds! :)

The above is both misinformed and downright dangerous advice to be giving to anyone.

If a person takes the morning pill, one cannot automatically assume that they will get thier period on its due date. It means ingesting a hell of a lot of hormones at once, her period could come early, on time, or even later than it was originally due.

It is particularly dangerous to miss a pill at the start or end of a pack also, its not only days 14-16 that suddenly make it risky to miss one.

OP in future get your GF to understand the ins and outs of any medication she is taking. You should too.

The morning after pill messes up your period and can give you worse cramps than usual. I know because I've had to take it three times:o. Why don't ye get a pregnancy test to settle any fears. This is not medical advice but if it were me I would wear condoms for about two weeks into the course of the pill, just in case.

Point taken Miss Fluff - I should have started that was to the best of my own knowledge - wasn't trying to mislead anyone - apologies

hope it worked out for you in the end. my ex wouldnt take the pill saying it would make her fat. is this true. i was in love with her for so long and ended up with her having 2 misscarriages with me. it would have saved a lot of heart ache if she had taken them but we both wanted a family. not with the ex anymore and lost all contact :D:D:D

The pill affects everyone differently. Some people do experience weight gain. TBH though chips cause weight gain too. The only thing to do if this is the case is eat less and/or exercise.

Obviously, if you are very worried, have her take a pregnancy test to put your mind at ease. Im just wondering if your gf is careful at taking her pill? if she is, you shouldnt have a problem in theory as many (check your leaflet to see) OCPs work by preventing ovulation so that no egg is released at all and it also thickens the mucous secreted so that even if an egg were to be released, fusion with sperm is inhibited.

the above only implies when the pill has been taken properly as per instructions though.

    read the information booklet!

in the info booklet of pill pack, it gives new WHO guidleines for missed pills:
week1 – if taken 12 hours late or more, use an additional form of contraception for 7 days after
week2 – take it as soon as you remember but there will be sufficient hormones in the body which means that hormone levels won’t have dropped significantly for ovulation to take place
week 3 – stop the packet and begin the 7 day pill-free days immediately, or run the next packet straight in

God I've often been careless with taking the pill in the past...didn't realise you had to be that strict with it....it'd often be a few hours late when I take it if I forget on certain days to take it at the same time...

The timeframe you have to take the pills depends on the pill in question. Read the booklet that comes with them carefully.

DO NOT assume that what one person posts about their pill applies to yours as well. Please read the leaflet.
