Title says it all. If they market it right between now and the ceremony, I reckon it's got to be favorite for the award. Imagine Glen Hansard with an oscar. Interesting times...........

Sure why not? It's a damn fine soundtrack, stands-up on it's own right as an album and is a regular on my current play-list.

Here's a list of nominations/winners over recent years:

Good for him but I fear his ego may grow to planet devouring proportions if he does win.

Not a huge fan but it's nice to see something a bit indier getting a music nomination.
I preferred the song they recorded in the studio though.

I'm glad he got the nomination. The song and the film deserve it. But I still hate the guy. :)

I presume the nomination is for best song/soundtrack?

Please God don't tell me it's for best actor!:D

It wasn't the soundtrack that was nominated - Falling Slowly got nominated for Best Original Song. Just to be pedantic ;)

It's up against 3 (!) songs from Enchanted and one from August Rush. Looking at the list, the Enchanted songs could end up splitting their vote, which could be good for Falling Slowly. Just a guess though.

What is the ruling on this?

That song has appeared on both a Frames album, The Cost, & on Glen's solo album, The Swell Season, which had Marketa Irglova playing on it.

As far as I know, both albums were released before the film.

It definitely deserves a nomination and it´s great publicity for the movie but I was sure I had seen somewhere that the song was ineligible as it was included on the Swell Season album and for oscar consideration it has to be an original song.

Edit: I did some googling and it seems that Once was filmed early in 2006 before any of the other versions of the song were released so in that case it qualifies

Don't know the song, am not sure if we can take Hansard's ego getting bigger but fair play to him all the same.

Decent year for the Irish, probably one of the better. Best Song, Best Supporting Actress and Best Actor nominees.

I'm not a Frames fan. But it certainly is a nice enough song and it's one that sticks with you.

While I enjoyed the songs in Enchanted, I don't think I could remember any of them off the top of my head.

Bit weak all round in my opinion so no not deserving though I wish I could say it was.

Never liked The Frames but it was the songs that made that movie successful so I hope he wins.

Just to be double pedantic, I still think it's a great soundtrack. The Oscar nominated song is pretty good too. ;)

love the song. they have great chemistry and his voice is amazing. it will be fantastic to see them win. hopefully it will still be entered with the contoversy about wheather it was written for the film or not.
i never knew he was in the commitments too until recently.

The song was approved for nomination yesterday. (there was questions about the song being written for the film. Seemingly it had been recorded a few times before)

I hope he wins the Oscar and then impales himself on it somehow.
