So all I'll say is, you can't be serious.

Why? He's the clear choice really, the biggest leader by far over the past few years! Commands unreal respect among his fellow players

I just hope they get out on the pitch firstly(and this from a Tipp fan:eek:). I could very well see Donal Og being captain though, even though I think its better to have an outfield player as captain.

can they even find 15 loyal hurlers in the county?

Donal Óg would want to be paid for that honour

im sure the players would want to first vote in a transparent system more complicated than the US democrat presidential nomination process to nominate a captain.....................

Frank Murphy or Teddy Holland (sort of Ryder Cup style captains)

    :D

OT, I'd like to see Sean Og made captain. He's far more inspirational than Donal Og IMO, and I don't think goalkeepers make good captains - they're not in the game enough except for puckouts and the odd save, they're also too far away from many players on the team to have any influence on them. Besides, I can't stand the little b*ll*x! ;)

Two very valid reasons not to be county hurling captain! ;)

    +1.
Accusing a Cork player of playing for Tipp is a very serious matter! He might get a Tipp-bashing when he's out some night ;)

yes this is a serious matter. but i do agree on one or two of the points. yes donal og won't be able to get what he wants ot the players who are at the other end of the field but im sure they could work out a way to do that. secondly yes they have to start playing again. i don't like the way they pick the captain. (the captain of the team to wins the club championships). like the last captain i can't even remember his name. what is the point in that?? he had no real experience in playing matches. you need someone who has had alot of experience and someone who the players respect e.g donal og or yes sean og.

My hurling manager is good freinds with some of the Cork team so lucky enough me and my team got a training session from Donal Og, Diarmuid O sullivan and Kevin hartenit. And IMO Donal Og was the best trainer. So I think Donal Og should captain them.

Ronan Curran and Tom Kenny form the shortlist for the captaincy of the Cork hurling team in 2008.

Under new protocol passed by Cork Co Board on the same night as their first controversial vote on changing the format for choosing team selectors, the right of the Cork champions to nominate a captain was taken away.

Instead, the management have that choice now and Curran, the team's centre-back, and Kenny are understood to be the favourites.

Originally it was thought that Donal Og Cusack or Diarmuid O'Sullivan, who have missed out on the honour in recent years because of Cloyne's failure to get across the line in Cork, would be chosen once the new rule was agreed. A decision on the captaincy is expected to be confirmed this week.

Cork delayed naming a team last night for their first post-strike game against Dublin in Parnell Park on Sunday.

Ben and Jerry O'Connor and Joe Deane will not see action until later in the league, while Kieran Murphy has also been ruled out with injury.

There is a doubt over Sean Og O hAilpin who missed the weekend challenge against Galway.

Like their footballers, Cork have already lost the points from the games they missed because of the strike against Kilkenny and Waterford.

To be fair, I do think Ronan Curran has been outstanding over the last few years and a great leader on the field.

    What about Joe Deane?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 380 ✭✭future_plans

yeah. He didn't have a great year last year, but then again he was recovering in the early part. He went missing for large parts of some games and I don't think he can be as influential the other two mentioned around the middle. Nothing against Deano though. Great player and have loads of respect for him.

    It's Gardiner.

What a terrible choice. You need someone who is strong, passionate and honest. Not someone who'll throw a hurl into another players back, or roll around on the grass after taking the slightest of blows to the face.

Could name ten players more suited to the job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,053 ✭✭✭mollybird

ya not sure what kinda job gardiner going to do of it. guess we will have to wait and see. never would of put him down as a contender for the job though

even though gardiner is an extremenly classy hurler , i cant help but feel he is stil only young to be made captain,,he has been playin alrite so far this year in the league games but wouldnt tom or diarmuid have beeen better more experienced players
