    Help - Computer Problem.

since this morning the computer doesnt appear to be working correctly. It keeps reseeting the average speed, petrol consumption and journey info every time I turn the car off and on. The right electric window is now also acting up..... in fact the all of the windows are now acting up periodically since this morning.

was my car struck by lightning during the night. I hate french cars. I have been trying to sell this for some time, but can never get a straight run where everything is in order ... joke shop

Renault's are notorious for computer/electrical issues. Especially with the megane range. My boss had one that the passenger window would not close but went up and down when it wanted. I believe it ended up costing in the region of 750euro to get right. Shocking vehicles.

I have a 2003 Megane and have had an electric window motor replaced under warranty in 2007. For the first three years the car used break down regularly and spent a fair amount of time in the main dealer's garage (due to electronic problems). For the last year it has been a great car with no problems at all. I am not thinking of changing it as it only has 38,000 miles on the clock.

I love French cars (and drive a Berlingo van) but the next car I buy will be a foreign one (from outside the EU).

Have you checked things like battery connections?

I had a similar issue in my old clio a couple of years back. The battery was changed and whoever did it managed to leave the connection loose. I think the terminals on the new battery were skinnier than the old ones so even at fully tightened, it was loose. Ended up having to stick a nail in to keep it tight. Never had a problem after that. My mothers been driving it for the last while so I changed the battery again to one that seems to have thicker teminals again because it tightens properly now.

Not all Meganes are bad, we have a 1.5DCI Dynamique and it is an amazing car, smooth and very quick with great mileage. We've had a few higgles from new, no more so than the last Golf, but all sorted without quibble under warranty. I drive a BMW and am always happy to take the wife's Megane.

    To the OP.
How old is your car? The reason Im asking is that I had similar problems with My Laguna until I fitted a new battery. It was like a new car after that everything worked perfectly. Renaults seem to go through batteries quicker than other makes.

You may not like to hear it but Renault are regarded as one of the worst cars on the road. Many dealers will not even take them in as trade-ins. Reliability is very, very poor (I know this from experience). Electrics are particularly bad. The Laguna are actually worse than the Megane even.

If I were you I'd get rid of it for a Japanese (Honda or Toyota preferably) or possibly German car.

True most dealers hate taking them in. You tend to have to go back to the renualt dealers again to upgrade to a newer "better" Renault:eek:
