Hello all, I was just wondering if people had advice and maybe some stories of similar experiences.

I played juvenile hurling for as long as I can remember. Played right through up until I was 19 and had to go away to college. Played intermittently until I was 21 and then, regrettably, could no longer find the time. Now I'm 29. 8 years in the wolderness wasted. Even though I puck around on a weekly basis, I have no competitive match experience in that time. So, while I'm still young (relative terms) I am going back junior hurli

So as I said, advice, stories, good and bad all welcomed!!

Fair play Langerland, hope you enjoy it. My hubby went playing junior b at 38 - he hadn't played since school, but played soccer so was still fit enough (39 now and injured - :))

He had a great time, enjoyed the training, and the time (very little) spent on the pitch, the social aspect was (is) good too.

    Langerland,

I was pretty much in an identical situation to you last year, had played from when I can remember through to U21 and then left it for 7 years.
I would have been handy enough as a young fella but felt like a right tool at first when I went back, I was doing everything in slow motion.
The best bit of advise I got was to do an hour in a handball alley a couple of times a week, hurley and tennis ball and within about a month I had a reasonable eye for the ball again.

Same as yourself I went back playing junior hurling and began enjoying it again.
Best of luck with but be patient for the 1st month or 2

No problem to ya! Just get used of that lovely feeling of the butt of a hurley in the ribs again, or a rasp across the knuckles or shins, or some little fckr stamping on ya!! The joys of it all!! :)

Seriously though, fair play and good luck! You'll be glad you did it.

Well first of I’ll say fair play. I’m in the same boat(going back soon). I did go back three years ago before work got in the way again.
Once piece of advice I can give you is to take your stick and tennis ball into a hand ball alley.
It really is good for getting your eye in. One thing I realised when I went back was my hand eye coordination wasn’t as crisp. But the hand ball alley really improved that.

    Hope it goes well lad.
