    does this sound reasonable??

a main dealer has quoted €170 euro to replace front set of pads incl labour? seems a tad expensive?

Try quik fit or other tyre centres. Phone around first. Tend to be much cheaper than that. Seems overpriced to me.

i know nothing about cars and i've replaced my mates ones. Its a very simple job and it takes about 5 minutes a wheel to get it done. Give it a go yourself, its not hard at all!

For the ammount of work that goes into a job like that that price is a sham!

    Order your brakes here:
(mintex brand - really good stuff - and this guy supplies them cheap)
http://premier-components.co.uk/catalog.asp (in Mintex Premium catalogue, around 28 pounds + 10 or so for shipping)
(just enter your make and model)

Then get any back lane mechanic to fix it, should cost no more than 50 in labour (it's less than an hour work).

You'll end up saving a few bobs (probably more than 50 quids) and will have a quality pad in your car.

Some can be lot more awkward than others but no more than 20 mins a side.

sounds like a typical dealer price. Probably 90 for pads and 80 labour.
Should be able to buy good pads for 40 and labour 50 at small garage.

This is really daft advice, don't go near your brakes unless you know 100% what you are doing and, have the right tools and are mechanically inclined. Brakes are one area you don't want to "Give it a go."

Buy the pads and take them to a trusted independent.

FastFit did my 2 front brake pads w/ fitting for €65 IIRC, which I thought was ok. Probably helped I was getting a coupla tyres off them too ;)

If that was the price quoted for pads and fitting I'd love to know what sort of car you drive ? Maserati ? Bentley ? Aston Martin ?

Welcome to Honda land. Honda dealers ain't cheap but they are pretty good.

You could get them done for less elsewhere, but would this affect your warranty?
