just wondering, how often is a wireless network said to be scanned by hackers?
i am on an unsecured network at home, but turn on the wireless on and off as i need it.

if the answer to this question shocks, me enough, il consider doing a bit of work on my network's security!

It takes all of 2 mins to set up a WEP key on your router. Do it today. If it has MAC filtering on it use it aswell.

WEP is as good as no encryption. It's WPA with a long key or nothing.

It's hard to say. Do you mean scanned by people around you for access to your router or by internet hackers scanning a certain IP range?

It's easy enough to secure your network.
Get Comodo firewall and also WPA-PSK protect your router and you'll be reasonable safe.

Not true. You won't get people accidentally connecting to a WEP-enabled AP. Plus, there are far, far more people who know how to connect to an open wireless network than there are those who know how to crack WEP. Let's have a bit of realism, eh folks?
