I just bought a laptop cover from a US online store for $21.50 plus $17.17 shipping or something, the order was processed no problem, I chose IRELAND as my country and it gave me a recalculated shipping price of $17.17, paid, order went through, payment taken from card. Then I get an email yesterday saying to cover their costs, they need $20 more for shipping ($37.17 total for shipping so?).

I sent them this back anyway:
    Hi,
That's not really on. I've already paid for S+H to Ireland of $17.17 , I entered my country and it charged me accordingly. Can you not just take it out of whatever excess packaging it may be in, squeeze it into a padded envelop and send it with USPS? I don't care if it takes a week or so to get here. That probably wont even cost $17.17, I can't imagine it weighing much so it'll probably be cheaper than $17.17. You could easily fit it in a big padded envelope I'm sure. Even if folding it wont damage it, just fold it, I don't care. Just as long as it gets to me within 2 weeks for the price I've already paid ;) I'm not paying more and $37.17 for shipping is far more than it will cost, not a hope of me paying that :)

    Regards,

This is what they want $37.17 to ship: http://store.shentech.com/bfxxldh.html

C'mon now, it probably weighs just a few grammes.

What's the stordy with this anyway? Must they honour it since I've been charged?

    Any feedback appreciated :)

Just tell em you want a refund and take your business to a cheaper supplier/shipper.
They will have no problem obliging - if they are legitimate.
I can't imagine any supplier taking an item out of it's original packaging and folding an item in order to reduce shipping costs - It would be very unacceptable to most buyers.

Aye, ceratinly don't pay the extra $20 and highlight the fact in an email that they advertised the shipping at $17 and you'll report them to ebay if they continue to insist on the 'extra' hidden charge.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I've been looking for this for ages and they were the cheapest with the shipping at $17.17.

Passenger, what do you mean report them to ebay? They aren't part of it as far as I can see:confused:

I've bought stuff before and requested it be shipped in little packaging via USPS as opposed to whatever the site charged through DHL. I paid $2 for shipping instead of $24 on that particular item :)

snakes. some places do will take an order (but no money) and come back with a quote later. In this case I tried to order and see nothing wrong with what you did, nowhere in the info did it say expect a higher charge. if you had to type in Ireland I might have been more lenient, but they have no excuse, other than a messed up payment system on their end.

They are charging $9 for ground in the US. even 17 is expensive compared to that, since the $9 includes their "handling" fees. So you should only pay the extra post.

THis is a point I make when emailing US ebayers or other foreign companies who offer cheap or free post within their own country. e.g. a UK seller saying "free within UK", might try and charge full whack to ireland. So I word it "hi I see your item has the post & handling fees included in the price to the UK/US, what is the additional postage cost to have it sent to Ireland"

If you are cheeky you could go to royail mail or USPS and work out how much it should be and suggest it, so they dont come back with a stupid quote.

I reckon their site is knackered as they charge $17.17 for delivery to any country in the world on all the shipping methods.
