When did CO2 figures begin being produced for (import) cars?

    Hi All,
Sorry if this has been answered already, but can't seem to find an answer. I understand that no documented CO2 figures mean that you'll pay €2000 p/a in motor tax for imports from July next. My questions are:

    1. When did manufacturers begin providing this information (roughly)?
    2. Is Japan any different in this respect;do they have 'recognised' CO2 figures and if so, when did they begin to provide them?

I ask because I'm wondering if there is a certain cut-off point for imports where CO2 figures are generally unobtainable and vehicles older than this are liable for the top-end rate of motor tax.

    Cheers,

    DC.

I think I heard they only go back as far as 2001. Nothing solid to back that up though, only hearsay on my behalf.

According to the word on the street, 2001 sometime. According to the Department of the Environment, May 2005.

Even if a manufacturer provides data for a JDM car, there's no guaruntee it'll be accepted by Revenue, I got this impression from the interview on The Last Word last week.

This sounds typically Irish. Surely there's an 'acceptable' standard that people can reference and will have confidence that Revenue won't disagree. I wonder what 'rules' Revenue are planning to use?

I'm sensing another "Open Market Selling Price" situation :)

I think I read that they will get the CO2 independently tested for cars that don't have it. Can't remember where I saw it thought.
