Do you have a 'project' you are going to work on when you have time? Need to protect it from the elements.
Shrink Wrap Pro will cover your car with shrink film which gives you a cover that is tight as a drum and does not rattle or chafe.
    See www.ShrinkWrapPro.ie for details

I dont think that this would be suitable for cars unless there was a way to ensure moisture does not get trapped between the wrap and the paint !

Most car covers are breatheable for this reason. Letting the car get wet is not as much a problem as not letting it dry out !

Any other info/experience on this ?

Hi there. I have come across this product/company before. But in the marine trade, ppl would shrink wrap and heat this product when the boats were on dry out of season dock,or in storage, might be something to look into, but i dont think it's that cheap?not sure about the condensation end of it Cheers

    Thanks for the comments.
Regarding condensation it would be better to shrink wrap the car/vehicle when it is dry.

Adhesive vents can be attached to the wrap if a circulation of air is required. The wrap can also be cut and taped around doors if access is required to the vehicle. The tape I use does not leave a residue on the paint like gaffa tape.

The shrink wrap cover is not reusable but it a very effective way of moth-balling a vehicle until you can get around to locating a premises to restore the vehicle. The main advantage of a shrink wrap cover over car covers or tarpaulins is the tightness of the cover. It will not rattle or chafe as it is tight as a drum skin (or make noise in the wind!).

If someone in the forum is located in the Dublin/Wicklow area and has such a project I will cover the vehicle for free as long as they will post their comments on the cover.

    Regards,
    Donal

I'd imagine one could only really comment after unwrapping a car that had been covered for a lengthy period, ie at least a year, no?

Sorry guys, but this does sound like a rather ridiculous idea. What is the point buying a car and wrapping it up? Save yourself the money and get another hobbie, chess or something. Or do I miss something?

    Maybe you're:

    Going away for a while
Don't want to keep it outside for the winter
Can't get parts to work on your car
Have another car you are working on
Storing the car for the future

There are many different reasons to put your car away for a few months, mines away until paddies day, since halloween.

Although I do think its probably not a good idea to shrink wrap your car, even if there are vents, all it will take is small amount of water trapped somewhere to start the rot and as this can't be re-wrapped easily/cheaply yourself I don't think you would be rushing to take it out of the wrap. Probably great for boats.

I think I have seen this used on a boat - looked rather strange at the time but appeared to be a very strong cover.

I agree, doesn't seem like a good idea for a car IMHO.
