The weather was sort of alright today, so I spent my lunchtime wandering around taking photos and going hungry tomake the most of it. Tried a couple of HDR's but had no tripod with me, so apologies if they aren't the sharpest.
    C&C welcome.

they r pretty cool.where were they taken

Nice - with the first one it'd have been great to have nailed the straight line running along the floor - would have given the shot a great balanced feel to it.

    Is it city hall?

Yeah City Hall alright. A gem of a place for shots. Lots of nice natural light coming in from all direction. I couldn't get the shot straight down the line at the time. There was a guy in a high vis vest just off to the right in the background and some scaffolding, so I had to maneuver myself around to block him out with one of the pillars and subsequently PS out his scaffolding!

Like I said it's definitely being revisited with the tripod and they are cool about you taking photos in there as well. A maintenance guy and a porter asked me if I wanted to climb into the broken lift they were fixing to take some photos! I said I'd come back another time.

Darren, It is open on Saturdays. The link to the times are here:

    http://www.dublincity.ie/your_council/city_hall/city_hall.asp

Ignore the prices though as thats just for an official tour. They have a really nice broad spiral staircase with a domes glass roof at the top so light pours in. Exposures can be hard as the underside of the stairs are in the shade. When I saw the stairs I instantly thought of those fantastic shots of yours from Charleville Castle.

Could be a good idea for mini meet sometime. They have a coffee shop right there and Dublin Castle is next door as well?

Lovely shots. What lens/camera are you using?

I'm really liking those, indeed. Lovely warmness to them, the balance of light/dark is very well done.

I've been thinking of taking another wander round dublin castle at some point too - never knew what this place was or anything so would love to go see - is anyone up for a mini meet? Should we possibly make a call or send an email to ask about the whole photography thing and their take on tripods?

Ooh, Dublin Castle may be nice! Is there an admission fee?

In my 11 years of living in Ireland I don't think I have visited there yet :(

Elven, yes count me in for a meet. I never knew you could get in there either.

    OP- fantastic shots

@Darren, I'm sure they would be cool with tripods. I've been in city hall a few times and its never busy. I'd say the biggest worry would be all the photographers getting in each others shots and jostling for position.

    @robmccartney, I used a Sigma 15-30mm lens at 15mm on a D3.

@elven, a mini meet would be a good idea. Plenty around city hall, dublin castle, Patrick's cathedral, Christchurch & temple bar. I can call down to city hall tomorrow (only work in the civic offices) and make sure they are ok with tripods.

@thirdfox, Admission into the actual castle isn't free but its free into the grounds and the gardens etc...

    Thanks Bovril.

Ooo they are lovely. And hand-held? Nice job!

I'd definitely be up for going too. In my slightly more than 11 years living in Dublin I've never been in there either! Hey we could all invade Eustace street for that comp too :D

Must be like a new lens on the D3. Not jealous at all :p

and to add, a mini meet would be great. I'm heading in on Saturday regardless of the weather so if anyone wants to join me we can organise something.

    Very nice shots altogether!

I'd be very self-conscious about a meet. Would have to go in disguise.
