Smartie Lids

Anyone remember trying to collect the lids off tubes of Smarties with letters stamped on the inside of the lid?

Do they still have the alphabet stamped on the lid?

I remember it being popular (ish) at school many many years ago but I don't know anyone who managed to collect the whole alphabet.

No they don't have the alphabeth anymore (as far i i know)
All the lids now seem to be orange coloured.

I collected them too, I had no idea why! In the beginning I thought it would be for some sort of competition or something but there was none. The lids were in different colours and i never collected all of the alphabeth (

Don't think so, think they're all either in the treatsize boxes or in the weird hexagonal shaped versions of the tube. Think they only changed them to make them easier to stack or something.

I want my blue smarties back!:(

Yeah, I always thought it was a secret code or something but alas, as you say, it lead to feck all :mad:

I thought the only letters they had spelled out SMARTIES. Didn't think they did the whole alphabet. I too dislike the new tubes.

They definitely did the whole alphabet as I remember I kept getting "c", "x", "y, and "z", and I'm pretty certain none of those are used for spelling "smarties" .

No, the new boxes are hexagonal and there are no lids, just an extension of the box that closses over.

By the by, has anyone noticed that the flavour has completely changed in the last few months? I think its because there are no artificials anymore or something like that. Thoughts?

No, I haven't eaten Smarties recently - I'll pick up a tube of 'em next time I'm out - I'm intrigued.

The new packaging for them didn't last either, did it? The mini cans.

Ah... I just thought the rotten, IMO, flavour was due to dodgy storage by my local... dang... won't be eating Smarties again so....:(

Ah smarties are great, pretty sure they only come in a cardboard box thing now though. I hate to admit but they do taste better now :P

But it's the principle of the whole thing!!!

Used to always mean to collect the lids but never got it going (collections started and ended with whatever Smarties tubes were being opened when I was in the room). Strangely they disappeared whenever I put them down!
