Now i know the FCA no longer exists as of 2005, but is the change to the RDF purely cosmetic? or is there a genuine increase in quality of arms, training and standards with this change?

AFAIK it was a restructuring and to turn a defence force into proper army reserves.

Keep in mind I'm no expert on the subject whatsoever.

They have increased training with PDF units, get exact same uniforms (except for beret) etc., but from my experience you can't teach an old dog new tricks, some problems with incompetant NCOs still exist and you have the usual "I want to shoot guns cos it's cool" 17 year old element joining

But even with the restructuring, I think the RDF are still officially the second line reserve. First line reserve is after people leave PDF they are reserves for "X" amount of years.

Always wondered what level of training ex PDF members under took, I couldn't imagine an ex Commandant turning up to FCA parades after his retirement!!
