They're using effects units, the guitars don't have built in effects. My guess is that they may be using some Roland V-Guitar stuff?? You could email them and ask but I don't know if they'll tell you. :D

The guitars they are using are electro-acoustic guitars, that is, acoustic guitars with the pickups like an electric guitar. They can be played as a normal acoustic would, or the signal from the pickup can be processed just as is done with electric guitars.

They are using some distortion and a bit of delay I think, at least in the dailymotion vid. Could be running through any stompbox/effects unit...

    thanks for all the help.

so to recap- they are electro acoustic guitars which are have effects units hooked up?

anyone know what type of effects units or is it just one that does everything?

    cheers!

    > Yes, thats correct

    > You have their myspace page, why don't you mail them and ask? Its near impossible for us to figure out what setup they have. Some people use upwards of 10 pedals on their boards. I myself have about 6, but thats only the start :D

    cheers!

    :)

ok thanks everyone for the help.

now ive to go and get a guitar+loads of effects so i can play them songs!

ill try mailing them and ask what effects they have. better grab a french dictionary!

You don't need effects to play a song! And also, this song would be easier to play with an electric guitar, and would sound better. You'd be better off buying a guitar that you're very comfortable with playing - trust me, you'll be able to play those songs.

    yeah i see ur point.

i think id still rather have guitars like the videos though. it wud be nice to have the 1 guitar that can do all of it

But it would be nicer to have two guitars that can do it better! You wont be able to play everything on an electro acoustic.

yeah. but i saw this band on hols and they were incredible with the stuff they were playing.

if u check out the links in the first post you'll get an idea

they can play stuff like the strokes, muse, bloc party,keane,oasis,u2,coldplay,arctic monkeys+more!

so having 1 guitar that can play all them decently wud do me!

But its not the guitar! I don't think you're grasping the concept. The guitar won't magically make you able to play those songs or sound like them.

ha i know that! i know ill have to practice practice practice!

basically i want to know wat stuff their usin so when i have the ability, ill be able to get that sound!

i like the idea of the electro-acoustic so i think id rather that than havin to buy an acoustic and en electric

From what I can see, They are just using effects boards to mimic the bands they are covering. Like most cover bands do. These guys are just very good at it.

The point Joe Robot is trying to make is that when you're that good, no matter what you are playing you'll sound good. Because the sound is in your hands not in the equipment.

It doesn't really matter what you learn on, as long as its not a complete plank.

wow they are really good.great range of songs.

so from what people are saying, is it better to have an acoustic and an electric guitar instead of having an electro-acoustic?

It depends entirely on what type of music you like to play, or would like to play.

If you're looking for an acoustic guitar as a first timer, then go for the best guitar you can buy without a pickup or onboard preamp. That way, you'll get a better quality guitar for your money. If, some way down the line you decide you want to do some recording or play a gig then there are many drop in pickups for acoustics, or you could just mic it. :)

Whatever you do, don't buy from Argos...

BTW BostonB, you hit the nail on the head. That's exactly what I was trying to get across. Thanks! :)
