I love the Postal Service. Give Up is in my top 10 albums from the last 5 years!

If you are looking for more recent material they added a cover to the recent John Lennon covers album for Darfur.

Have you herd the Against All Odds Phil Collins remix they did? Its class, check it out !

where you hear they'll have a new album out this year?

DCFC have a new album (which is sounding pretty damn good) out too and i'd imagine they won't have a lot of time to record due to death cab touring.

they need a second album, I've just about worn out Give Up.

But that's how they recorded Give Up. Ben was off touring with the band and posted his input to Dntel, who then added his pieces and posted it back! Just went back and fourth until the tracks and eventually the album was finished. Hense the name Postal Service. Nearly all of it was done while Death Cab were ont he road!

No reason why it can't be done again.

BTW....can't wait for new Death Cab stuff either!

ahh, didn't know that, i only got into both bands around plans time.

looks like 2008 going to be a great year, dcfc better come to ireland tbh.

Thanks for this guys!!!! I didn't even know that DCFC had a new album out.

Give Up is definitely one of my favourite albums on my iPod. One of those that I'll listen to on repeat until I'm sick of it but go back to it a couple months later and still love it!!! 'Nothing Better' is my favourite track (Brand New Colony a close second) - I think my ex-boyfriend should give it a listen ;)

2008 is going to be a great year! Last weeks NME went through the groups producing albums this year and we have a lot to look forward to.

Postal Service are unreal. Such an amazing album. The lyrics are fantastic, especially in 'Nothing Better' and 'Sleeping In'. Easily one of the best albums of this decade.....along with DCFC's last two! Be great to hear some new stuff from either.

There are some great covers out there too, taken from Give Up's b-sides. Flaming Lips have covered "Suddenly Everything Has Changed" and The Shins did "We Will Become Silhouettes" (this is brilliant!).

Most people might have heard Iron & Wines stipped-down acoustic version of "Such Great Heights" (also a b-side)....but check out Ben Folds playing it! He plays it live all the time. Do a search on YouTube for them......Ben Folds myspace gig is one of the best. He stuffs his shirt down the back of the piano to give it the right sounding effect.....genius!

That there's a Flaming Lips original.

Not too sure about this band. Might give em another listen.

    My bad.

I quite like the Postal Service. Might be worth checking out Dntel's solo stuff if you're a big fan. I've only listened to Mistake Mistake Mistake (which he recorded as James Figurine), which isn't the best album really but has some great moments. '55566688833' is a great track, if a little corny.

Didn't know that at all. That's really cool. Hope it's good, the new DCFC stuff does sound quite good. Are they going to be touring Europe?

Have to agree with the love for 'Give Up' - absolutely phenomenal album and worth I'll never tire of!

But this "new Postal Service album" have been promised for the last 3 years! :D I'd imagine Jenny Lewis, Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello are busy enough with their individual projects to even think of a new album. As Cremo mentioned, Death Cab For Cutie have a new album out this May anyways.

The John Lennon cover 'Grow Old With Me' was the most recent recording from 'The Postal Service' - that was on the 'Instant Karma' album released last year.

Oh.. and can't forget this. I got a hold of a recording of theirs called 'Morning Becomes Eclectic' a year or two back. And it's basically them playing a full set ('Give Up' more or less in it's entirety) on a radio show in the US. If anyone wants it, I'll upload it to my web server - it's not copyrighted as it's available streaming on a radio show in the States. Absolutely excellent!

Oh Jenny Lewis and the Postal Service - must check that out. Cheers basquille!
Love the Ben Folds cover too - far superior to the Iron & Wine one.
Looking foward to a second album. Only issue I have with the debut is that the songs are a little too similiar on occasion, but overall a terrific listen.

not really mis-leading if you read the posts above it saying that the postal service will have an album out this year.

Had a pinch of these songs for a while but it was off a horribly scratched CD - the only thing that came out alive was Such Great Heights. Not a bad tune at all.
