Okay, so I've been following the threads here and having a look around the 'ol interwebs the past few days and so am now contemplating my first airsoft purchase. Both the TM VSR-10 and TM MP5A4 appeal to me equally and I'm having a bit of trouble deciding between them and I was hoping for some sage advice :D

A friend and I are also planning on hitting the HRTA at some stage over the coming months, so maybe that can be factored in.

If you're new and plan on actually playing forget about the VSR and go with the mp5. You'll have a lot more fun.

oh and welcome by the way :)

Agreed, even if you decide to be a sniper later on when you figure out what your playing style is, the MP5 is a great little gun to have as a back up or for any situation. Great as a secondary or as a primary. You can't really beat how universal it is. Unlike the VSR10 which will pigeon hole you into a sniper role straight away, something you may not like.

yep as above, id go for the MP5 to begin with, (well id probably choose something else but would defo be an assault rifle).,

By the way, it won't be an MP5A4, it'll be an MP5A2. A4's have burst mode on them as well as semi and auto. A2's only have semi and auto. I've yet to see an A4 airsoft version despite how many claim to be it.

if your new to it all and you wanna see whats its like, if your gonna spend the money on a TM then have a look at if you shellout a ass load of cash and don't like it then you might be out of pocket. Try considering something lower like JG G36C, Eirsoft.ie are selling them for €130. They are a solid piece of kit good range and accuracy, there are other such AEG's like that.

If you can get them for the same price go for it, I know a few lads that bought them and then let them go to waste.

    weapons

    That word doesn't exist here.

OP I'd recommend that both yourself and your friend take a trip out to a skirmish site before you consider investing, it will give you a chance to get a feel for the game and decide what role suits you best. You'll also get a chance to grope a ridiculous amount of AEGs :D

Yes, this is the best way, you'll have loads of fun and you might spot a gun you didn't know existed and fall in love with it. (Is it wrong to lurve a gun?)

You're asking a fairly biased audience here, I'd rather sell my spleen than an AEG :D

    Thanks for the replies, all.

I've been looking at ehobbyasia and they have the MP5s for €120, so with a battery, glasses and shipping that shouldn't be more than €150-€170, right?

Hmmm, yeah, might just do that. As a side note, what kind of gear would first timers be expected to wear?

Anything you don't mind getting dirty and a good pair of boots. You can rent masks there so there is no need to bring your own.

Don't forget to factor in VAT on that order, if your stung by customs it could add up to 25% to the final price (the VAT is charged on the total price including shipping)

While were on the subject of skirmishing for the first time........
How many mid-cap mags and spare batteries would you need to bring with
you on a typical day out ?

If I ever get to a skirmish I would probably be traveling with 1-2 other people
and would be giving them a lend of some of my equipment. Since I have less
batteries that AEG's and also only have no spare mags I wanted to get a rough
idea how many mags I should buy for whatever AEG's I would be using.

The G36 would defo be fielded, an armalite, possible my FAL maybe or and AUG,
    P90 for backup,

It depends how much shooting you plan on doing ;)

For the FAL I have three mid caps and one high at the moment. Would like to have about ten mids eventually. It's fine though for now as the high fits 500bbs so I'm not going to be running out.

Batteries all depend on what you're going to be using and what size it takes. Your FAL has a stock doesn't it? So I take it a large battery goes in there. You wont need to bring another in that case. I've yet to use a whole large battery in a day.
