If Munster were to get a home Semi-final (assuming they could get past Gloucester away) where would it be played ? Landsdowne isnt an option at the moment, so would Croke Park be considerd?

probably would be considered as would the RDS also depends on the state of thomond. however, let's not get ahead of ourselves, remember last year.

I dont think it would be considered at all. RDS or abroad is my guess.

I doubt the Gaa would allow the any more liberties...

    doesn't matter now anyway

Croke Park isn't available. It'd have to go to Congress again which won't happen before April. So that's out.

And the RDS only holds 18,500 which doesn't meet the 20,000 minimum requirement for semi-finals. So they'd have to fit in another 1,500 seats to use it or else it'd be a trip to the UK...

    It's irrelevant really.
Place'll be full of Munster fans if it were on in The Falkland Islands.

Absolutely true, location utterly irrelevant, as long as it holds 30-40,000 that is...a Munster SF is a truly moveable feast...but lets not get ahead of ourselves...

Im always surprised Pairc Ui Caoimh never gets a mention in threads like these..

Its in central[ish] cork - and would hold 45k odd people? It only gets used 5 or 6 times a year and Im sure the Cork GAA would not say no to a few hundred grand for feck all..

the gaelic grounds in Limerick is a class stadium and would hold 40000 or thereabouts.
GAA can give special consideration to a motion if croker is needed.

Doesn't that rule of not being able to play your home draw at "home" kick in then; i.e. Munster can't play IN Munster. Or is that my imagination...

    🤪

Semi-finals can be played in any 20,000+ venue of the 'home' country aside from the regular home venue of the 'home' team. So Munster can't playin Thomond (or Musgrave).

why is that? it seems a ridiculous rule.

It was the Cork GAA board (Frank Murphy) who were most passionately against opening up Croker.

But yes, Pairc Ui Caoimh would be an ideal ground for any home Munster Draw.....if only.

It's supposed to be a neutral venue in the home country. Though obviously the whole thing is a bit silly - Leinster have played a semi in Lansdowne twice because Donnybrook was their registered home ground.

Anyway, the IRFU decide where the game will be played and they will pick wherever will generate the most income.

The GAA would probably jump at the chance purely from the amount of money they would make for it. It would be great to see rather than the final alternating between Twickenham and Cardiff every year (with France the odd time).

RDS is now hotly tipped for SF

    🤪
