    Well fellow brothers,

This thursday I shall be venturing over to LA for 2 weeks to relax and chill out. Now in true BGRH custom im going to spend most of my time in some irish pub getting... as the americans call it "crunk" (crazy drunk).

Now I dont agree with the "crunk" attitude because it sounds like a bunch of teenagers drinking dutchy in a field thinking theyre cool. However, I digress, any tips for me while im over there?

What beverages to drink, food to sample, goals to set?

I shall be hitting dairy queen and krispy kremes to give me sustinance on an almost daily basis. Tactics to work on with american wimmins?
Im stereotypical irish, red hair etc. think it will work in my favour?
Should I ham up my accent too?

Impart knowledge on me oh wise ones

Try Chilis - it's a chain of restaurants, but they do great Southern/Mexican food. Also The Olive Garden (Italian) and McCormick and Smick's for seafood and to finish, Black Angus steakhouse.

The American's love their steaks, so make sure and eat plenty of them. It is rare (pun intended) you would get a bad one.

On the West Coast, their geographical knowledge spreads as far as Mexico and Oregon. I had to explain to one or two locals that we were not in fact Scottish and that Ireland is in fact a separate country to the UK. :)

So no, it won't work in your favour.

From a beer perspective you'll be glad to know that some of our American friends have graduated from watery p*ss to actual drinkable beer. In and around LA you should be easily able to get Sierra Nevada beers. Their pale ale is well worth a go. I don't know how readily available it is in LA, but Anchor Steam Beer from San Francisco is a must if you see it.

Newport Beach is a lovely place. If you're an ice cream fan check out the Cold Stone Creamery in the town. It's a chain so there are more of them around. About 10 miles south of Newport Beach is Laguna Beach. There are a few decent bars around there, but make sure you have ID with you. One of our group, who was 37 at the time, was refused in a bar because he had no ID, although the locals told us it was just because the bouncer was being a jerk.

Find a decent burger place, they do huge burgers at some places here. If there is a Fuddruckers near where you are, they do a 1/3, 1/2, 2/3 or 1lb burger and whatever toppings you want. Hardees do a smaller version for fast food and the quality of meat wouldn't be as good.
Olive Garden is nice as Tom mentioned, again huge portions and plenty on the menu. Safe trip and good luck. :)

In & Out Burger is the place to go.

Their burgers are only amazing. Craps all over other fast food places imho.

mmmm in & out burger [/drool]

EDIT: Here's their website. It'll give you locations, and you can always order online.

Free refills will be your friend.

Also, the Americans pour beer in a glass thats slightly bigger than the pint, these are also your friend.
