laptop not loading discs , any help

    Hiya
    compaq evo n1020v havnt a clue how old etc was doing the job fine till i tried to load new nortin anti virus and eircom broadband disc , just making a noise like its reading disc then nothing , have been paying eircom for b band few months now and cant even load the disc ! also paying for anothere type of crappy broadband till i sort it , was working fine before any ideas please ? aside from fkin it out the window :D

    Could be a dodgy drive. Can it read DVDs?

    Does the CD ROM drive show up in my computer? I'd advise against using norton its junk, try install a free one like AVG Free instead (Trust me). I saw this issiue a cd rom drive dissappeared before on a laptop that got infected by nasty viruses, iirc they were msn ones, system just went slow and optical drive stopped working, formatting fixed it, try booting off a windows or linux cd at startup, see if the disc loads, if it is, it could be a virus in windows
