SkyHD box problems

    Hi folks,

I've a SkyHD box (unmodified), and it's playing up.

    1. While watching live TV, sometimes if I rewind / pause / fast-forward, it plays ball as it should, but then a minute or so later it will glitch, for a second or two then continues on. Interesting thing is during the 1-2 second glitch, in the bottom left corner of the screen, the pause timer icon displays momentarily - in pink!

    2. It seems to randomly delete recordings from the Sky+ planner - even those I've "kept".

    3. One or two recordings from the Sky+ planner cannot be played. I press Select on the remote to view the program synopsis, then Select again (or Play) to play - however it freezes on the synopsis and, it seems, the only way out is to press Sky to get back to live TV (backup doesn't work).

    4. It spontaneously puts itself into standby and won't come back on for love nor money. I have to unplug the power and replug.

The box was bought on eBay, brand new and sealed, from a UK seller with a high feedback rating, who claimed (and genuinely appeared) to be a Sky installer / dealer. His eBay account now appears to be closed.

Anybody in the know have any ideas on what could be wrong with the box?

I've had the HD box from the day the service went live. I've had all of the problems you mentioned at one time or another and it continues to this day:rolleyes:

There's nothing specific I can point out as a trigger for any of the individual problems, just seems like c**p firmware which SKY don't seem to be too interested in improving. Perhaps there is a new hardware revision coming out at some stage? Won't help us with the Thomson box.:(

The only thing I can suggest is that you go into the installer menu occasionally and run a planner re-build. This seems to hold off the problems for a while.

Thanks. I've done the planner re-build a few times but it's not worked. Sky tech support (who by the way I find refreshingly very helpful and polite indeed), suggested a full system reset. I'm reluctant to do that at the moment because it will erase all the recorded programs, so I'm told.

I have found that switching off the instant rewind feature on SKY+ boxes helps this problem dramatically but haven't ever tried it on a HD box....might be worth trying.

    Thanks for the replies lads.

Hmm.. so it's not just my box it seems. How Sky can charge €449 for buggy equipment is outrageous. What grounds for complaint / refund do you think we have? There seems no point in repair / replacement if it's a general hardware / firmware fault.

I've been thinking of getting Sky HD but these stories are putting me right off!
