HP 530 - What do you think?

I am looking at the HP 530, it's a budget HP laptop but seems to have got alright reviews from a quick google.

There are also various options of it around, some cheaper, due to the processor, and hard disk.

Just wondering what folks think of it ? I could also possibly add another 1GB of RAM if that would improve things, would the cheaper version be improved with the extra RAM?

I have had a HP laptop in the past which served me well, so was looking at sticking with HP, but am open.

    Thought's & advice welcome. Thanks ! :)

I wouldn't touch the second one. Vista on a celeron processor and a half a gig of ram should be considered a form of torture. It really won't be a pleasant experience. The first one really is much better. If you choose to upgrade the ram, you can get a 2GB kit from shop4memory.ie for around €60.

Oh, and just on the RAM as I have never changed any before. Do I need to purchase a single 2GB stick ? Or an additional 1GB as 1GB is already installed?

I am thinking a single 2GB but just wanted to be sure.

    Thanks again !

The best thing to do is buy 2 x 1GB sticks. The laptop probably has 2 x 512MB sticks in it already.

Ok, so I got the laptop, opened the RAM and it would appear there is only 1 stick in there, which is a 1GB (says 1024 on label). It appears to be in a lower slot, and there is what seems to be a similar slot above it which is available, I assume for the other 1GB stick.

I found this document on HP (page 35) but it does not provide enough detail.

Would it be likely the 2nd stick goes above the 1st ? and not side by side ?

    Thanks again !

Yes this is entirely possible,a lot of laptops are configured that way, try fitting the second stick of ram into the free slot and it should click onto place when the retaining clips lock into place.
