I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm picking up a T3 Tactical in 223 next week and I'm kinda stuck for ideas for a scope. I've got a Simmons Whitetail Classic 4.5-14X40 off my magnum that can go on it for a while. Its mainly for foxing. I'm Kinda in the same position as Tommy

Hey lads picked up my new 223 (remy VSF) last week its just run in now, so foxes beware! There is a very good scope in duffys in galway for 270 euro.
Its an AGS 6-24x50 and i find it amazing at the moment!!
Has an IR reticule and mildots! And is very clear! Also has a basic range finding facility! So if your looking for a budget scope you can buy it on line a www.shoot.ie!

    Happy shootin:D

I have the 4-16X50 VIPIR on a 17hmr., and to be honest i'm not gone on it. I'm thinking about the Bushnell 6-18X50 thats advertised on that site. Any ideas?

Iv a Leupold Mark 4 on my T3 Tac .223. Had a Hawke before that, which was fine but I decided to buy a bit of glass I'd have forever. Still selling the Hawke.

    jonty,
if thats the bushnell banner that your refering to, i have it on a 308 and find it to be great, great clarity and good in low light, plus it doesnt break the bank at that price.......

I've got a Nightforce 5.5-22x56 on my .223, also had an MTC Viper 4-16x50 on my last .223 (currently on my .22lr).

Depends on how your money situation is. Sako is a good rifle, deserves good glass. I would be thinking Schmidt & Bender, Swarovski, Nightforce etc. but I'm easily parted from my money :(

I would love a nightforce on my 223 its just the price is as much as the rifle, and well my scill isnt up to either the rifle's or scope standards!! I will always be the weekest link!!

They're very nice scopes, still I'd like to see the equivilant (spelling) S&B and Swarovski all on rifles out at night under the lamp.

have used all three at night- swarovski has the edge-but during the day on small targets-nightforce is the way to go.icon12.gif

I recently purchased a Nightforce 8-32x56 NXS for a shade over €1000, great scope and was very happy with the price, it took a bit of the sting out of the other TRG accessories I bought.

    Where ?

You've bought a very fine rifle there, now don't try to save your money on the scope, buy the best you can get. Schmit & Bender, Zeiss or Swaroski won't be beaten in quality.
You can buy the best quality rifle that'll make shamrock groups all day but if you put a bad scope on it you won't hit consistently and its a waste of a good rifle.

I have a kahles helia scope sitting on my .223 unbelievable clarity during the day but comes into a leauge of its own as the light starts to fade i have shot a few foxes during the summer evenings that i could not see with my naked eye it has to be seen to be believed:)
When i was in the shop the day i had the €€€'s for either a zeiss swaro or s+b the kahles beat all three for clarity but it was close between it and a zeiss victory diarrange but the kahles came out on top in my eyes.

If you can afford it go for one of the above or a nightforce buy one of these and you will have the scope for life.

What's the story with duty on those?

Got a rangefinder shipped over from the states in my name for another fella, got caught for 104 Euro charge!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,070 ✭✭✭cavan shooter

I could be wrong but if it's importing from Europe no duty. Try sticking to Europe.. I am open to correction, I know my company purchases all the time from europe and no duty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 324 ✭✭macnas

Eurooptic are based in the US and will ship a Nightforce to anywhere in the states for free. When I bought the first scope from them, I was quoted a price from a discounted pricelist. I am now awaiting delivery of a second scope but he wouldn't give me the discount, still very cheap though.
As for the duty, you will have to figure out that for yourselves, with due consideration for the law of course.
