sounds good. There should be more about the guards on tv like they have in the uk for their police.

Sounds good, i agree with random more garda documentarys, heard theyre making a 6 part documentary on customs at the moment, say that should be good

Yeah man! I think an Irish version of Road Wars/Street Wars would be brilliant! Can you imagine! Would probably boost the Garda ratings!

Tis nice to see the gardai on telly (not on the news for once) Anybody see ''Single Handed'' on new years?

Bah. Was it only 30 mins long? I missed it and now Eastenders is on!

Bit disappointing, short and sweet left alot hanging no real conclusion to it, could have done with atleast another 30mins

Agreed no real answers just rehashing, but very good for people who were not aware of the murder.

I myself was not nor the next guard to be featured, but was a bit of a teaser, does anyone know where more info can be obtained

    Hey folks,

I was actually involved in this documentary (acting). There is very little information on these murders, but if you google 'Garda Fallon' (the Garda who was featured tonight), there are plenty of articles on his killing as his family have been campaigning tirelessly for answers.

The Garda Roll of Honour is the only central website with information (albeit a few lines) on each murder.

    Hope this helps.

For anyone interested I just saw an ad for this. Its a new series starting this Monday on RTE 1 at 19.30 about Gardai killed in the line of duty. First episode is the story of unarmed Sergeant, Paddy Morrissey, shot dead in Ardee in 1985.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,160 ✭✭✭TheNog

I definitely will not missing any of these episodes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,084 ✭✭✭eroo

Sgt.Morrisey's murder was particurarly nasty and callously carried out. The defence claims during the murder trial were laughable. Like Nog I wont be missing any episodes.

Should be interesting. As it happens I worked on episode two, playing a detective. The story is worthy of a Hollywood plotline if it wasn't so tragic, ending with the death of Garda James Quaid. Two detectives stop an IRA man with whom they were on first name terms as it happened. They discover weapons in his van. He pulls a gun and in the exchange of fire. Both he and the detective are hit in the leg. Unfortunately the detective dies.

There is another episode dealing with the Don Tidey kidnap were recruit Garda Sheehan was shot during his rescue. Speaking to the crew. I was told that when they started researching the story they found evidence of some kind of cover up particularly in relation to the calibre of the bullet that killed him. The suggestion is that it was an army weapon. I think that episode will be extremely interesting and maybe controversial.

+1 thank god for sky plus!

saw the episode last night, brutal murder, the pair should have been hung,id like to see that sentence re-introduced.

Sky+ does the job alright. Not a bad show but if I'm honest the constant switch from Irish to English did my head in. Was there a particular reason for it?

Interesting story though, wasn't aware of it before watching the show but interesting to hear peoples accounts.

it was an irish show but a lot of the contributors wouldnt have fluent irish so they spoke in english, it didnt bother me that much
