Where can I get high octane (98RON) fuel?

Is there anywhere (in Dublin) I can get 98RON petrol? Is it true that Shell V-Power is in fact the same octane rating as regular unleaded (95RON). If so, what are they charging the extra 5c/litre for?

Go to any maxol. Their unleaded is now E5 biofuel, which is apparently 99RON.

What type of car have you? You may not notice a difference unless you're driving a relatively powerful jap import.

Has to be a high compression engine to see any benefits.

probably placebo, but i always feel its got more oomph when using those boosters, so extra octane cant hurt!

High compression engine, or "relatively powerful jap import"?

Standard fuel in Japan is 100RON+ so many japanese imports run better and/or produce more power on higher octane fuel.

Some jap imports ie Scoobys tend to have serious problems on plain old 95RON

Thanks ronoc and alias. Not much point in going in depth in a thread needlessly until we find out more.

    Edit: Be nice!
