Irish form players

Now that the HC is to take a break and the Internationals are on the horizon I ask the question who are the on-form Irish players going into this period?

Because everyone always says that its these form players who should get picked and thats why I wonder who in your opinion are these guys?

A couple of the Leinster forwards are always mentioned like Heaslip and Cullen while I think this is true Leinster are not exactley what I would call a form team atm. Meanwhile down Munster way there are players like O'Gara who was terrible at the WC and Mick O'Driscoll who didnt even make the squad playing great stuff.

    O'Gara
    Dunners
    Jackman
    O'Driscoll(edit: that's Mick, not Brian)
    Leamy
    Payne
    Flannery

On current form I think I would go.

    Murphy

    Kearney O'Driscoll Trimble Bowe

    O Gara Reddan

    Heaslip
    Leamy/Quinlan Wallace
    DOC MOD/Cullen
    Horan Jackman Hayes

    Bench 5-2
    Flannery (pre ban)
    Buckley
    MOD/Cullen
    Quinlan
    Stringer
    Sexton

Hard to pick a form backline TBH even has two ulster players in there . Loosehead picks itself unfortunately not fin a good way.

Which O'Driscoll are people saying is on form???? BOD hasnt been playing the best rugby of his career at the moment and is being hampered with a on going ankle injury. That and he hasnt really had many matches where we could say that he was hands over heads better then the opposition 13

Mick on the other hand has been doing very well and has very subtlety got on with his game and improved it hopefully EOS will take note. Oh and thank god DOC has realised he needs to up his playing he's had two very good games lets hope he can further this

Whatever happened between the munster and leinster boys at wc lets hope they've put their differences between them. o gara was on top form for Munster today and if he isn't named captain for the 6nations over O driscoll there is something seriously wrong.
O driscoll had a good game today I thought

To pick a starting 15 purely on form I would have to go for the following:

    Horan
Flannery (Jackman though if Flannery gets a ban next week)
    Hayes
    Cullen
    O'Callaghan
Johnny O'Concrete (More than likely gonna be Easterby though)
    Leamy
    Heaslip

    Reddan
    O'Gara

    (No surprises in the backs)
    Kearney
    Trimble
    O'Driscoll
    Horgan
    Dempsey

Stringer proved himself today over reddan i would think.Would love to see BOD lose the captain and have O Gara he has shown his leadership, Never going to happen though

on form, stringer is in there ahead of reddan. stringer had a huge game today, reddan was very poor, 2 passes going straight out to touch.

What about stringer with two ridiculously poor kicks, one of which was a bizarre kick straight to touch
There are scrumhalfs all over the place pushing for their game for Ireland e.g. Frank Murphy, Cillian Willis, Chris Keane. Bar injuries Stringer should never start for Ireland again.

No player had a good World cup so should all the world cup players never start again?

    No just Stringer

Thought stringer was excellent today for the most part...besides the few dodgy kicks he also had that terrible pass which caused ROG to step into the dead ball area (not that any of the officials noticed).

poor stringer, a did in form an hes ****e, jackman as hooker (shudders)

    "Cillian Willis, Chris Keane"
They're far from ready. Willis looked like a schoolboy when I saw him play for Leinster.
They're both so unprepared for top flight that they had to bring back a 37 year old to play scrum half.

    Kearney O'Driscoll Trimble Bowe

2 ulster backs in the starting Ireland 15 are you kidding me??

It was a team based on form not the team I would actually send out for a 6 Nations game. Well Bowe and Trimble have been playing pretty well behing a rubbish pack and half back combo, where as Horgan and D'Arcy have been very poor behind a pack that has been playing pretty well of late. Could you justify either of their inclusion on the grounds of form.

It is hard to pick the forwards because there are so many on form at the moment. It is hard to pick a backline for the exact opposite reason unfortunately

ffs try and pick a team of players on form. leave your supporters gear at home.

actually what marco polo said was spot on

    No just Stringer

In fairness you've picked JOC at blindside and Leamy at openside

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

off the current club form (not neccessarily the team I'd play)

    Murphy
(lets just leave this wing empty - can't think of anyone playing that really deserves it :P)
    O'Driscoll
    Trimble
    Rob Kearney

    Ronan O'Gara
Eoin Reddan (still the better scrumhalf in my mind - stringer had a great game but a couple of very poor decisions)

    Jamie Heaslip
    Shane Jennings
    Dennis Leamy
Donncha O'Callaghan (after todays game - if he keeps up that sort of form then yes.)
    Leo Cullen
    Marcus Horan
Bernard Jackman (Flannerys gonna be out, and to be honest I have a feeling we'll need jackmans work around the field pretty damn soon)
    John Hayes

Sorry I didn't mean my list to be an indication of what number each player would be playing, it did appear that way though. Anyway clearly Leamy would be 6 and O'Connor 7 if they were to play together

BOD hasnt been doing that well, but we all know how well ireland perform without him.i would like to see some more GP players in the ireland team now that mcmillan and wilson are going across the water, anyone think theyll get a shot in the back row? in mcmillan's place, he hasnt had much of a chance to impress...

    15 murphy
    14 Horgan
    13 BOD
    12 D'arcy (or trimble)
    11 Kearney
    10 O'Gara
9 Reddan (played consistently better than stringer this season, but would mind if stringer started)
    1Horan
    2 Flannery
3 Hayes (i dont like seeing horan or hayes starting, theyve had there day but theres no proper alternative)
    4 cullen (or mick odriscoll)
    5 donnacha
    6 Leamy
    7 Wallace
    8 heaslip

This is a thread about current, form players.

Why are people picking horgan on the wing?

because he isnt as good as bod or darce in the centre, and the strettle incident when he tried to block him, and horgan just smashed him out of the way! :D

anyone know where i can get ireland italy 6 nations tickets? not looking to spend like £100 for one...

and a Large 06/07 ireland shirt?

Ok he's played some reasonable stuff this season but he's past his best. DOC, MOD and Cullen should be ahead of him in the pecking order for sure.

well picking on form and gettin the best out of ireland, esp gettin young blood a run against italy, itd be:

    15 Dempsey - i usually prefer geordan but girv's playing v well
14 Tommy bowe - played really well for ulster today
    13 BOD
    12 Darce
11 toughy....Kearney or Fitzgerald...Kearney gets my nod to get a noob in
    10 ROG
    9 Reddan

1 Healy - throw him in the deep end can always sub him, lethal goin forward
    2 Birch - Jackman
    3 Hayes
4 Donncha - played really well saturday
5 Leo Cullen - Mal droppin too many balls, mick o driscoll not doin it for me
    6 Leamy
7 Whilst i love gleeson, jennings and wallace, J O'Connor is the form one
8 Heaslip - Definitely definitely definitely

    16 Stringer
17 tough...wallace played quite well today....sext....no, Paddy Wallace gets it
    18 Horan
    19 Flannery
20 Fitzgerald - to slot in anywhere 12-15
    21 Wallace
22 Big Mal over mick o driscoll

Dowling doesn't score tries so would be doing very little damage to anyone. Keogh is, at best, the third best no.6 we have available. Buckley was also rather crap last time he played at loosehead was he not? Trimble can't pass well enough for 12 either, I'd switch him and BOD.
