    hiya folks,

i'm a drummer in galway looking for a band, im mostly into hard rock/metal as my influences are from AC/DC - Iron Maiden, my playing style is based mostly as a mixture of Phil Rudd and Nicko McBrain.

If you intrested let me know and please no time wasters, i want to be serious about this, i have played with a good amount of bands but none seem interested enough.

i also write lyrics and can do backing vocals :D

just letting any galway bands out there know that i've had a few offers and any that want me to try them out if they need a drummer should tell me now, and my influences aren't just AC/DC and Iron maiden, others bands such as Bullet For My Valentine, Metallica, Dire Straits, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Queen, Megadeath, Oasis, Led Zepplin, The Who, Velvet Revolver, Guns N Roses, Green Day and others that i can't think of right now

Hi guys, can you bear with me while I have a rant about the state of new bands?

Why do most bands never “make it”?
Why are most bands mediocre and eventually fade away?

When a new band is forming, typically, a group of friends get together and start jamming, doing covers, etc. After a few line-up changes, the band eventually gets some small gigs and maybe records a CD, and of course gets some of their material up on myspace or bebo.
They scratch around and settle for crumbs of media attention. If they are “lucky” enough to get an interview, they say things like: “Yeah, the fans are great…the gigs are going great…everyone has been great…” Yeah, everything is f**king great.
But it’s not great; sooner or later, it all ends up in the sand, and goes nowhere.
    Why?

Now before, I continue, I would like to say that guys getting together for jam sessions is perfectly fine, and, is in fact great fun. No problem.

The question is: What distinguishes great, successful rock bands from the average garage band?

    A great rock band:
    1) Contains only talented musicians.
    2) Contains only hardworking, dedicated musicians.
    3) Has no place for prima donnas, gob sh*tes, etc, etc
    4) Has its own sound, i.e. is unique.
    5) Writes and perfects its own material.
    6) Does not do what everyone else is doing to promote itself, i.e.
    i. Does NOT rely on myspace like the millions of other bands
ii.Does NOT kiss the ass of the media when they show some interest
[Example: I remember Liam Gallagher arriving at some awards ceremony a couple of years ago being approached by a camera crew:
Interviewer: “Noel, can we have a word?”
Gallagher (without stopping): “Boll*cks! There’s a word for ya.”
    - This is the CORRECT rock attitude to the media, in my opinion.]

    7) Has supreme self-confidence.
    8) Is lucky.
    9) Lives the “rock way of life”(This does not mean turning into an alco / junkie / *****r).
    10) Has attitude.
    11) Has BALLS – this is the most important aspect.
    12) What else?

Now, if was starting a band, I would be looking to follow a particular path based on the above.

OK rant over, but do you wanna hear more or has anyone else any thoughts on this, or will I just shut the f*ck up and take my pills?

haha what the **** was that in aid of or even for?!
I respect that all the above for it may be your personal views, but what you posted has nothing to do with this thread at all, sure you seem to have it fairly worked out as to succeed with a band, you've got everything listed why dont you do it?..
music's an expression, its fun not neccessarily to get famous, obviously that is a factor but jaysus slow down will ya!
what you have posted is some seriously unprovoked rant as far as I can tell.

Yes a rant it certainly is! Just getting bored with the bright eyed hopefuls you see on the TV occasionally, or in the pub. Most are bunny rabbits without an ounce of attitude.
As it happens, I do intend getting a band together, so i will stick with this thread for a while! OK, now where is my medicine?

    hi guys,

i would have to agree with most of that, the quility of bands have gone down alot and in doing so has let some rather bad bands get famous,

i myself have this opinion, for me the age of the greats like AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Led Zepplin, Guns N Roses, ect.... are gone,

at the moment, in a band im in, we are trying to invent a new kind of music, its a mixture of old school rock and some modern metal, i know its a weird mixture that doesn't sound like a new type of music? but everything has to start with something?

thanks guys, that my own opinon,

    Drummer101
