See title. IT systems in UCC couldn't connect to the UCC network, even though this iBook will connect to a shared Internet connection from an iMac. Any help would be appreciated.

    ????????

i have. i'm on a macbook, but it's always patchy and messes with my firefox settings. it's usually the IT crowd that fixes it though, so I don't know how to help you.

Go to the computer centre and ask what the story is, I used the wifi everyday with my ibook/macbook when I was there.

I'm trying to do this for my brother. He went to the UCC IT people last week and they were working on it for ages trying to get the college WiFi to work. The Airport Extreme seems to work because I can share the iMac's connection to the iBook's Airport Extreme card. I can only imagine there's a setting they've got wrong, but they work with Macintosh laptops all the time.

Do you have Leopard on it?????? I know that won't work. also double check the information that you registered with. i had a problem with my laptop and i was told that they could do nothing. i eventually got it working on my own

Double check everything you have control over and then head down to the Computer Centre in the Boole basement and they should be able to sort it out some way or other.

If not then maybe a guy or gal from Computer Science or certain societies may be able to help.

Alright. Thanks. I don't have Leopard on it. I'll get my brother to ask someone else who has a Macintosh.

If anyone has any settings for the wireless that aren't listed here:
    http://www.ucc.ie/en/sit/wireless/JointheNetwork/MacOSX/
    please let me know.

why? it'd need to support their security protocols and radius server.

440Hz - does that mean you're in Comp Sci in UCC now?

the network people in UCC are a little more security conscious than net cafes. they're likely using more strict controls.

so is that what it is? simply a security issue!!??lol its not like i'm going to hack the US national security defence office with my ipod touch!!! But seriously: are UCC terrified that they may be associated with such grotesque acts of online tom foolery!?

that's probably what it is. you wouldn't believe the crap that the networks people put up with, and in their place I'd have an even more restrictive policy.

bear in mind that anything that originates from the UCC network is blamed on the UCC networks people and you'll see their point.

The tech people did as much as they could. My brother said they spent ages trying to get it to work and were baffled. I've shared the a wireless connection to the iBook so the Airport Extreme card doesn't seem to be at fault.

I haven't had a chance to run through the page I linked to there at all. I assumed tech support would do the same procedure as described on that page, and that there must be something else you need to do. The trouble is I'm not in Cork to get it working myself.

If any of you want to meet my brother on campus and help him out I'd appreciate it. I might be able to persuade him to visit the computer science labs.
