Recommended Broadband speed for COD4?

When I test my BB connection over on http://www.irishisptest.com/
I get 106k upload and about 800k download (ESAT BT 1Mb connection).

Could the upload speed of 106k be causing me problems on COD4 ?
Sometimes the online games seems to pause and jump on me!!!

I have the option to upgrade to 2mb for an extra € 5 per month, would that help COD4 playability ?

    Thanks,

Post up your results from irishspeedtest , and also run the test a few times and see what kind of ping it is returning . Your up and download speeds look about right for a 1mb connection and I have had 2 playing and 1 surfing on a 1mb conn in the past and not had a lag problem so it might be something else .

Results are fairly consistant, 857k download and 106 upload, max pause is 81ms.

Plauying on some UK servers I seem to get killed a lot, the UK seems to have faster BB in general.

Played COD4 on 1MB no probs, you could be getting choke or loss, bring up the net stats next time your playing and have a look at the numbers.
P.S. I don't know the command for net stats, but I'd guess it..... net stats

I can do a ping in a dos window, but what IP do I ping?

More info: I'm using a WIFI DSL modem (XYTEL) from BT.
My PC is connected to it via an 802.11g WIFI card.
I've dissabled my Windows Firewall and my Modem Firewall.
    Running full 128 bit WEP.

    Thanks,
    results from clarity.jolt.co.uk

    Avg=36ms

    Repeated tests show the same.
    I assums these are ok.

    Do ping -t clarity.jolt.co.uk > c:\pingtest.txt

Leave it running for a few minutes and then close the dos box. Open c:\pingtest.txt and scroll down and see if you are loosing any packets or getting any particilary high pings. Wireless is crap for online gaming as said already. If you see lost packets this is what is probably creating the lag and can get you kicked from some servers.

That's it, found my problem, many thanks.
Most pings were ok, but every now and then it would either timeout or go to 600ms.
I will need to run a direct phone line to my PC then ethernet to my hub and just use the WIFI for my laptop emails etc.

Thanks again, this is a great forum.

No problem. I had to do the same as wireless just isn't reliable enough. Big difference since I changed over to ethernet.

Ran a direct phone line to my PC, now getting 38ms without any timeouts:D:D:D

    Many thanks again.

I don't see much of a difference between wifi and ethernet myself. I notice a bigger difference if I hit certain servers though. I'm on NTL and it can be iffy itself.
