Lanzerote - places to go, restuarants to eat in...

    Hi all,

Booked a holiday in Puerto Del Carmen - Lanzerote for next sunday for my wife, daugher and I...Shhhh, they don't know yet.

Have never been there before. Decided that we should go now as my wife is 4 months pregnant and we won't be able to get away for a long time after this.

We are staying in the Puerto Del Carmen Aparthotel.

Can anyone suggest some nice places to eat, things to do.

Also is travel insurance compulsory...thought I had it built into my credit card but seemingly that's not the case. The budget travel website said that it was part of the conditions but I'm not sure is that just a money spinner.

Also any advice on car rental would be appreciated.

Again...Shhhh. I'm telling my 3 year old daughter tomoro.

We ate alot in a restaurant called The Tex Mex which was great, overlooking the water not too far from McDonalds. They have 2 or maybe 3 restaurants along the same stretch

Was in Puerto del Carmen a few years back, very nice resort and no shortage of beachside restaurants. It can be good buzz strolling along each night and choosing whichever takes your particular fancy, there's loads.

We went to the waterpark too (taxi ride) and had a ball. All round good spot.

Lots of excellent restaurants in the old town of Puerto del Carmen. Can't remember the names of any specifically but make sure to find the old town early in your trip and you won't go wrong.

Hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread dan, I'm considering booking a last minute trip to Lanzarote for myself, the girlfriend and her two year old son.

Any advice regarding Lanzarote itself, I'd prefer not to be in it's equivalent of Playa Del Ingles in Gran Canaria where I went for a lads holiday a few years back, definitely looking for a rather quieter, less tacky holiday this time around. Would Puerto Del Carmen be a good 'family' area of Lanzarote or, if not, could someone recommend an area that's not too 'mun in the sun?

    Just back from Lanzarote.

This has been our third time visiting and I have to say that Quintins restaurant was the best of all. We actually went there twice.

Thanks to previous posters for recommending it.

Other restaurants I would also recommend include.

La Ola & Cafe La Ola (beside the Casino in the new town)
La Cascada Puerto (on the way down from the Biosphere towards the harbour)
La Puerto Viejo (in the harbour)
Puerto Bahia (up at the top of the harbour)

    Thanks,

    Paul24

Go down to the old town,

There is a restaurant there called El Asador.... Fabulous.

    And also El Tomato...

I found eating in the Old town nicer than the strip.

    Enjoy!!

El tomato is lovely- I found that tex mex place on the strip awful- must have been an off night - food was awful salty! Old town seems to have lots of nice restauants though!

Sleepy- Just back from Matagorda- its just out the road from puerto del carmen- very quiet and family/ couple based area. stayed in Mar azul apartments- all ground floor and nicely laid out- small pool but only 20ish apartments so very quiet- would highly recommend it for what your lookin for. and its only a short taxi or bus journey into p del carmen for more restaurants and family friendly pubs!!

Just back and wasn't a bit impressed with Quintins. Had high expectations but didn't enjoy it at all. Preferred La Cascada Peurto in the old town and Antica Trattoria in the new town.
