I said in here a few days ago i had no need for a laptop. How things can change in a few days. I need one now.
I am just after buying a refurbished mac book from the apple store. It is the exact same as a low spec brand new macbook on the apple store, expect for it is a refurb. €742 ex vat. Most likely a display model from a shop.

All i wanted was a low spec laptop. I would not entertain windows even though i could have got one for €400, give or take. I wish i did not care, but i do. Windows would have been cheaper, and consider this macbook is not going to handle heavy stuff. Although i can see other people using it, which i do not mind ( that is one of the 3 reasons i got it) I just simply could not use windows again.

I looked at the macbook air option, but it is simply not that great. The weight is the biggest advantage. that is all it has. Macbook pro i do not need and i did not even look into it.

Buying a refurb ( to anyone considering it) you get the exact same rights as if you bought a brand new computer. You are allowed to buy the 3 year apple care protection plan ( which i did, well i saved €150 buying a refurb so ... ) It seems to take 8 days to receive a refurb computer where as you could get a new computer within 24 hours.

I wish there was no ilife on it. I have ilife on my imac which i love and i see no need for it on my macbook. However my feelings on this matter may change once i start using the macbook. ---To people with 2 or more mac - do you use ilife in all your macs?????

I bought the home edition of office instead of iwork. I was going to buy time capsule ( i may at some time in the future) but i reckon back to my mac is better.

I am excited about this purchase. I had to laugh at what PowerHouseDan said above "If i dont do it now i will never do it " and i know i would regret not doing it. Well i kind of had to cause in about 2 weeks time i will start using it a lot, but it will be light work.

crucial is the best place for ram, without a doubt.

http://www.komplett.ie/k/kl.aspx?bn=10614 here for the hard drive, all of them will work not 100% sure on the SSD hard drives though but they are crazy money and ****e storage anyways.

i have the WD 250gig in my macbook, and both the hard drive and ram are easily installed if you have the riight tools.

    you need...

    10c coin
    no. 00 phillips head screwdriver
T7/T8 (not sure which tbh) torx screwdriver.
library card/creditcard (to push the ram protector cushions back in on the bracket)

here's apple's instructions for upgrading the ram
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303721

once you have that 'L-shaped' bracket off, you'll see a little tab that you can pull out the harddrive with, there is a little metal (it's actually quite flimsy) casing screwed onto the hard drive with them torx screws. take this off and put it on the new hard drive because if you don't it will be very difficult to get the drive back out again.

    anymore q's just ask.

P.S Dan thanks for the email yesterday, much appreciated.

Must upgrade my RAM too actually. Do you need to use 2 512 sticks if you already have 2 512 sticks or can you just get a 1gb stick? Cheers.

you can use a single stick if you wish, but you won't be able to take advantage of dual channel memory, for that you need two identical sticks of ram.
