    Hi all,

This might just be an urban legend, but a mate of my brother's
says he rang up his broadband supplier (BT Ireland)
and said he was had gotten an offer to come back to Eircom.

Your one on the phone, there and then doubled his speed
to prevent him taking his business back to Eircom.

Any truth or is it rubbish?

Very unlikely to be true, perhaps he was given a temporary free upgrade in speed (from 1Mb to 2Mb as no other doubling would be possible) but I'd imagine he'll be paying for it in some way soon enough. The support people on the phone have no power to do this anyway, it would take a supervisor to do it.

The other possibility is he did indeed get a doubling of his speeds, but hasn't seen the next bill yet and will be paying full price for it.
