MacGyvering stuff for airsoft

Just wondering if its just me, I have started modding things that I own for use in Airsoft. for example I have a ol skateboards helmet that I have modded and resprayed that looks exactly I like the one's the spec op guys use in black hawk down.

I have made waterproof coverings for G36C so that when I am out skirmishing it won't get wet or muddy when I am not in a firefight.

Are there any other people out there that are doing similar things, or am I the Macgyver'ing guy here....?

Seek the one they call KD, you will know him by the multitude of screwdrivers ever present in his hands.

Interestingly they are just off the shelf hocky helmets, they used them because their light weight and give head protection while fast roping and jumping in and out of vechiles.

They were actually skate helmets. ProTecs. I have a couple of the older ProTec models lying around that are the same they used. They use the newer one now as far as I know, there's a slightly different shape to it and it has a small lip at the back to hold goggles in place. These ones are more for snowboarders.
Hockey helmets go quite far down the back of the neck and, on some models, obscure the ears too. They're generally a looser fit than skate/snow helmets due to the repitition of pulling off and on for play changes. One of the biggest manufacturers of hockey helmets are Cooper. The Cooper helmets that are so popular with hurlers are actually a discontinued line of hockey helmets. The Canadians ship them over here and make a bomb on them because noone there wants them, and here they're like golddust.

I'll dig out my old ProTec and one of my ice hockey helmets later and do a comparison picture.

I am glad its not just me then, the missus kills me for cut stuff up and having the glue gun drip everywhere.

Tried making a triple laser sites so that it would look like the predators aiming recticule. Couldn't get the ailignment right, could idea on the camo tent.

The next project is to make some neoprene body armor, if I can.

so ya want a wet suit then,.,lol, :D
as for the lasers, you can get the adjustable ones in a lot of airsoft sites but do be aware that it is concidered illegal to mount them to an airsoft gun., :)

A trifecta-laser (technical term) is sod all use in airsoft to be honest. I built a rack to hold a trifecta set up ages ago for some measuring devices and tried it with an aeg on a range I set up just for kicks. It's of no use I can assure you. Apart from being unwieldy and difficult to aim with, it's dangerous.

Lasers in airsoft are pointless anyway. The beam will hit far further and far more accurately than you will. That's assuming it's even calibrated properly.

    what about designating targets?

    what about designating targets?

Do you generally find yourself using laser guided munitions in an Airsoft game?

Actually, in a huge MilSim if there was someway for the organisers to know when something was lased then it could be useful. Otherwise, coloured smoke is just as good surely?

I see where you're coming from but if you wanted a laser to designate targets or objects on an airsoft field then surely a hand held laser would do? These aren't illegal as they're not barrel mounted and they're cheap. When I say lasers are of no use in airsoft, I'm referring to gun mounted targeting lasers.

You wouldn't see the average laser during the day andf at night its a dead giveaway, tracer would be better because at least your firing at them.

IR lasers are a better bet but only if you have NV and the others don't.

Didn't know about barrel laser mounts being illegal, but thank you for the advise.

I have seen some great tracers alright and a couple of threads here on home made one's...

Not yet... the we havent worked out all the kinks in our Airsoft AC130 Spectre Gunship. were still working on the predator drone :)

Green lasers are great in both day and night applications, and TBH if your close enough to designate them with a laser for your guys to shoot at them then your close enough to be seen by them and get shot at..

plus i dont like the idea of having to have a specialy charged mag and having to shout something like oh i dont know "watch my tracer" everytime i wana designate a target for an Fire support group (for the craic we'll call them the FSG), i suppose i could try a different method like mills or the clock ray method but then id have to teach all my players it and im just not in the mood to teach some 16 year old the difference between 40 mills and 180 mills.

You mean those stupid little white things you throw on the ground and they make snaping noise?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

yeah there pretty handy for making a bang., theres no force in them though, i was thinking of using them for a BB nade once but they just didnt have the power.,

You can make a good trip mine out of a party popper but it setting down a trip line might trip someone up

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

I made loads of them out of party poppers.,lol havent used any yet in a skirmish but might give it a bash next weekend. If ya use 8lb fishing line then its enough to pull the popper cord but will snap if too much force is put on it so its not really likely to trip people up.,.
