Callaway Drive/Wood and Shafts

I just got a Callaway Big Bertha 460 and a Big Bertha 3 Wood. I got them second hand in McGuirks. I paid 215 for both which I didn't think was bad. The driver looks like it was never hit not even once and the wood has a small scratch but its tiny. I can only see when I bring the head near my face.

The driver has an Aldila NVS 55 > Stiff shaft and the 3 Wood doesn't have the brand name of the shaft it just has Mid/Low Torque > 70 > Stiff written on it.

Does anyone know if the shaft of the 3 Wood is a particular brand and could someone explain what Mid/Low Torque means.

Is there much difference between the two shafts?

What are your opinions of the clubs and price?

    Thanks

    L

First off, at 215 for those two clubs you can't really go wrong.

Aldila are a quality shaft manufacturer - they're not a general golf manufacturer, they just do shafts.

The 3 wood shaft is probably a re-shaft, ie: not the original. It's most likely that the previous owner reshafted it with a better shaft as Callaway are not famed for their shaft making - you'll see many serious golfers with Callaway clubs with Grafalloy, Pro Force or Aldila shafts.

Torque basically means Turn or Twist in this case - the tip of the shaft is firmed up so the head doesn't turn slightly at impact - especially when you hit it off the toe. Low Torque is good for players with average power or more. Increased torque can help weaker players hit it further.

So yeah, sounds like a good deal to me. The only thing is that they're stiff enough shafts but if you're comfortable with them then that's cool.

    thanks for the info,

I went to that new fancy driving range near Portmarnack on Sunday and i have to say I was very pleased with them. The shafts aren't too stiff for me and i found both clubs relatively easy to hit.

I'm very happy with the purchase.
