Ideas to try with new lens?

I've just received a tokina 12-24mm F4 lens. Its my first lens to buy other than the 18-135mm kit lens that came with the d80. Anyone any suggestions on ideas to try out the lens to appreciate the difference in a wide angle lens? I'm new to photography so am looking for some basic help/info.

    thank you.

Head out for a walk when it dries up.

    Get really close.

Get down low too, try out perspectives.

As Fajitas said, don't be afraid to get close, get low down and angle the lens upwards to distort things alot!
The closer things are, especially near the corners, themore distorted they will become, can be useful to give very effective compostion as you will be brought into the image from the corner etc....

Borrow a tripod and go to St. Patricks Cathedral (if you're in Dubin). And don't forget to look up.

I look forward to seeing the photos you get with this and how you find the lens as this lens is on my current wish list
