Another vote for the Harvey Norman Verbatims. They're a quality disc.

For years I've bought from these people and they are excellent and offer fab choice and value for money. Each of their media brands are also reviewed by customers so you know what you're getting.

Can someone tell me why I get this message from Boards
    vBulletin Message

sedohre, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

I'm just trying to access the link posted, what privileges should I need?

That link doesn't explain anything to me. Sherifu just writes in that link "since we eradicated poverty" I don't understand

Is there a discount link for SVP?

Otherwise does anyone know where to buy blank dvd's cheap please

    Thanks

Register at the svp site and then email them with the subject "boards discount please" and your login name.

    Then wait for a reply

Verbatim discs can vary greatly depending on who manufactured them.

There's recently been a lot of Taiyo Yuden batches going around (DVD-R and DVD+R) - they are quite highly regarded and it's easy to tell if they are these from the packaging:

    - The spindles will look exactly like this but with Verbatim graphics. Other Verbatim packaging looks significantly different although the graphic design will be similar.
    - There are ridges around the side of the base (the black plastic part).
    - They say "Made in Japan" on the side of the packaging.

If you find these ones, you will not be disappointed! Some other brands occasionally use Taiyo Yuden as well - again the spindles will look the same but with different printing on them. Sony stuff is easy to come by too but harder to identify.

    SVP FTW!

If you want the best DVDRs, go to SVP, it's good because for each product, they identify the manufacturer codes (in addition to the brandname) so that you know who actually manufactured the discs, not just who put their name on them. Anything backed by Tayio Yuden dyes is a good bet (codes TYG02/TYG03 for DVD-R, YUDENT00 002/YUDENT00 003 for DVD+R) as is Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC <anything>).

If you want LightScribe functionality, Verbatim do some nice MCC 004 Lightscribe DVDs.

It's very small. If you were spending 40 euro you might get about 70 cent off.

It's a great site but they really don't do their Irish customers any favours.

Essentially a disc labelling technology, requires Lightscribe media and a Ligtscribe-enabled writer drive.

I'd be very wary of completely unlabeled Taiyo Yudens like that - there's nothing there to suggest they are legitimate, and there are a lot fakes doing the rounds. TYG02 media is also pretty old now (how would they still have new stock?), and is the most commonly faked media.

Aldi have a spool of 25 for under a tenner, can't go wrong with that. Discs are grand, not really that much of a difference between generic and branded discs anymore anyway.

Well they apparently ship to 24 counties. Their website is in 10 different languages. and they sell thousands of products. Now I know it's relatively easy to stick up a slick looking website. But it'd seem like overkill to me, to try sell some fake blank DVD media. Personally i'd give them the benefit of the doubt that they're selling genuine products.

    They have TYGO3 too.
